Girls soccer: Grayslake North second-half surge sinks Grant

Grayslake North's girls soccer team scored all of its goals in the second half to beat Grant 4-0 in a Northern Lake County Conference match on Tuesday.

"While we knew the wind would have an impact on the way the game was played, against the wind in the first half, we created a lot of good scoring chances," Grayslake North coach Adam DeCaluwe said. "But we either couldn't find the final touch needed to put the ball into the back of the net, or Grant's goalkeeper came up with a big save."

Grant's Lexi Werve had 24 saves, including one on a penalty kick, but the Knights finally solved her after halftime.

Less than two minutes into the second half, Knights junior Jordyn Gerdes played a ball into senior Lauren Davis, who took a touch before placing a shot into the far corner of the net, giving the Knights a 1-0 lead. About five minutes later, Davis returned the favor, playing a ball into Gerdes, who took a touch around Grant's onrushing goalkeeper before scoring into an open net.

McKenna Brooks assisted Davis on the third goal, and the final tally was scored by sophomore Nicole Lacke off an assist from sophomore Maddie Kubas.

"Second half we seemed to have more commitment to work together to create higher quality chances," DeCaluwe said.

Grayslake North goalkeeper Haley Leanna made 1 save in earning the shutout.

Mundelein 2, Libertyville 0: Kate Hay and Addison Spilman scored in the first half for the Mustangs in the North Suburban Conference match.

Myah Strokosch had an assist, and Mundelein keeper Gillian Beginski made 5 saves in earning the clean sheet.

Antioch 2, Lakes 0: Rachel Moore scored her 22nd and 23rd goals of the season, and the Sequoits won for the sixth straight time to improve to 11-4-2 and 4-1 in the Northern Lake County Conference.

Ella Roberts had her 19th assist of the season, and keeper Monica Wilhelm had 7 saves in notching her eighth shutout.

Warren 7, Waukegan 0: Ayusha Ayalur, Courtney Chomko and Jamie Kwon scored 2 goals apiece to lead the way for the Blue Devils (6-10-1, 1-3-1) in North Suburban Conference play.

Elizabeth Weinberg also scored, and Warren got 2 assists from Chomko as keeper Lydia Sundberg earned a shutout.

Grayslake Central 10, North Chicago 0: Maura Fitzgerald and Hannah Kolb both scored twice to pace the Rams' victory in Northern Lake County Conference action.

Wauconda 4, Round Lake 0: The Bulldogs struck for 4 goals in the first half of the Northern Lake County Conference contest.

Megan Sinnott had a goal and 2 assists for Wauconda (12-1-1), and keeper Jill Rejczyk made 5 saves in earning her 11th shutout of the season.

Kayla Wisniewski, Rachel DeNovo and Annalyse Maze also scored.

"We created some great chances in the second half, but struggled to put shots on frame," Wauconda coach Beau Shogren said. "We are happy to get the win and the shutout, but we definitely need to improve our composure in the final third."
