Boys volleyball: Hersey's perfect in tournament win at home

Hersey's boys volleyball team won its own round-robin invitational on Saturday, finishing 5-0 to improve to 22-3 this spring.
In what turned out to be the key matchup with runner-up Glenbrook South, the Huskies split a pair of close sets before prevailing 15-10 in the tiebreaker.
Riverside-Brookfield finished third (3-2), and St. Viator (2-3) was fourth.
Jake Mailloux (48 kills), Joe Nugent (35) and Camran Saeed (34) led the Hersey attack, and Jake Irwin was 56-for-59 serving with 6 aces.
Jakub Migus totaled 122 setting assists, Christian Hong had a team-best 47 digs and Nugent was a force at the net with 16 blocks.
Hersey, the Mid-Suburban East leader, is slated to play at Buffalo Grove at 6 p.m. Tuesday and could clinch a spot in the MSL title game with a victory.
• Palatine split a pair of matches in pool play and ended up topping Prospect 25-23, 25-17 for a third-place finish in Libertyville's tournament.
Curtis McLennan (57 kills) and Johnny O'Shea (40 kills) led the attack while Ben Rinella had 119 setting assists and Conor Nix had a team-best 41 digs. O'Shea led the way with 7 blocks for the Pirates (22-8).
