Baseball: Malczewski, Prospect shut out Elk Grove

Mack Malczewski pitched a gem for Prospect's baseball team on Tuesday, striking out seven with no walks and allowing 4 singles in a complete game as the Knights blanked host Elk Grove 8-0 in the Mid-Suburban East.

Ed Brancato paced a 13-hit effort from Prospect (9-6, 2-3) with a 4-for-4 performance, while Ryan Howe finished 3-for-4 and Anthony Composto 2-for-4.

Elk Grove slipped to 5-6-1 overall and 2-2 in the league.

Rolling Meadows 5, Wheeling 3: A 2-run single in the bottom of the fifth inning by Brandon Janowicz helped the Mustangs come from behind for a Mid-Suburban East victory.

Angelo Shands doubled and drove in 2 runs for the Mustangs (5-8-1, 3-3).

Luke Joyce started for Meadows and allowed 3 earned runs over 5 innings. Joe Coen relieved and pitched 2 hitless innings to earn a save.

Barrington 8, Fremd 4: The visiting Broncos produced 10 hits and also drew 7 walks in outscoring the Vikings in MSL West play.

Nick Bogaerts helped lead with way with a 3-for-4 effort. He doubled and drove in 2 runs.

Michael Zavoli had a triple, and Tyler Acosta and Johnny Gagne had a pair of hits apiece for Barrington (12-2-2, 7-0).

Rami Fakhoury started and lasted 5 innings; Nate Holler pitched a scoreless seventh inning to get a save.

Will Josten doubled and Tom Wingen tripled for Fremd (7-7, 2-5).

Buffalo Grove 8, Hersey 2: Tyler Concialdi finished 3-for-3 with a double and 3 RBI to keep the Bison perfect against MSL foes.

Sean Jacobs, Zach Fricke and Mac Camardo had 2 hits apiece for Buffalo Grove (14-3, 7-0).

Fricke was sharp on the mound for BG, striking out eight and allowing 3 hits in a complete-game effort.

James Denten and Jake Irwin came up with doubles for Hersey (7-11-1, 4-3).

Conant 5, Hoffman Estates 1: The host Cougars got quality efforts from four pitchers in picking up an MSL West win.

Carl Zillinskas got the win in relief after Colin Broeker, Joe Pavletich and Luke Pontikis provided solid outings.

Matt Majer finished 3-for-3, Keegan Brandt had 2 hits and Tyler Hedman doubled and drove in 2 runs for the Cougars (8-7-1, 4-2).

Jim Kliver had a couple of hits for the Hawks, and Dakota Slingerland had the team's only extra-base hit, a triple.

Joliet Catholic 15, St. Viator 11: The hard-hitting Hilltoppers got a triple and a homer from Aidan Tyrell and 3 doubles from Jared Cushing to hold off the host Lions in East Suburban Catholic Conference play.

Ryan Stejskal homered and drove in 2 runs for St. Viator (10-7, 2-4). Other big hitters for the Lions included Bryce Hellgeth (3-for-4, double), Kevin Wilhite (3-fo-4, 2 RBI) and Jack Mahoney (double).

Deerfield 12, Maine West 0: The host Warriors generated just 6 singles against the visiting Warriors in a Central Suburban North loss.
