Track and field: Huntley makes it a McHenry County sweep

Huntley sophomore Ian Geisler was stunned by the final results.

Geisler claimed top honors in the 3,200-meter run with a clocking of 9:23.28, edging Crystal Lake South standout Jack Becker (9:27.25), who is headed to Bradley, by over 4 seconds to win Friday night's McHenry County Meet held at Huntley High School.

"It was an honor to run against somebody like Becker," said Geisler. "I just ran my race and had enough to win at the end."

Senior sprinter Dubem Anikamadu won the 100 (10.94) and 400 (50.93) but his quest For a triple win was thwarted in the 200 when the Kentucky-bound senior pulled up lame near the finish line.

"I felt it pop," said the Huntley senior. "It is probably a calf hamstring. I should be all right."

Huntley also won the 3m200 relay (8:02.93), 400 relay (41.79) and 800 relay (1:31.36).

With six first-place finishes, the Red Raiders easily rolled to the county title with 148 points.

Jacobs, third with 86 points, received a record-breaking performance in the 1,600 by Zach Albrecht.

Albrecht, the defending county champion in the event, shattered the record with a time of 4:13.25.

The previous record was held by McHenry's Jesse Reiser, who ran a 4:14.92 in 2014.

"My plan was to break the record," said Albrecht. "When I heard I had 3:09 after three laps I knew I had a good chance to get it."

The Golden Eagles also received a first place effort from Jermaine Maegdlin Ferguson in the 300 Hurdles (39.87).

"I had a steady race," said the Jacobs senior. "There was a good competition but I had enough at the end to win."

Loren Strickland won the long jump on Thursday with a leap of 21-9.

Girls: Huntley finished first with 160.5 points.

One first place effort came from Mary Racklowksi in the 800 with a time of 2:22.01.

"I am tired but it was a good race," said the Huntley junior. "I am hoping to medal downstate."

Other winners for the Red Raiders were Daryn Davis (100, 15.70) and Katie Bessey (shot put, 40.5).

The Red Raiders also swept the relays.

Cary-Grove, second with 125 points, received a win by Tabor Gleason in the high jump (5-6) on Thursday.

Jacobs, fourth with 51 points, got a stellar effort from Alyson Doherty in the 3,200 with a clocking of 11:27.29.

"I ran my race and the weather was great," said the Jacobs sophomore. "I hope winning the county will help me as the season goes on."
