Girls soccer: Davis' strike lifts Grayslake North

Lauren Davis scored in the final six minutes, lifting Grayslake North's girls soccer team to a 3-1 win over visiting Lakes in Northern Lake County Conference action Tuesday.

Jordyn Gerdes gave Grayslake North a 1-0 lead early in the game, finishing a cross from freshman Gia Marrero, but Lakes scored the equalizer with 12 minutes to play.

"That really seemed to wake our girls up in the late minutes," Knights coach Adam DeCaluwe said. "We got back to playing with more purpose on the ball and more desire to close down their possession to put them under the type of pressure we created in the first half."

Davis scored the go-ahead goal after receiving a pass from defender Grace Kendzior. Less than a minute later, Davis scored off an assist from freshman midfielder Ashley Hutson.

Grayslake North keeper Emily Dunne had 5 saves.

Grayslake Central 3, Grant 1: The Rams got goals from Amanda Kocialkowski, Hannah Kolb and Meghan Kube in the Northern Lake County Conference match.

Grace Herrmann had 2 assists for Grayslake Central, and keeper Taylor Ford made 6 saves.

Nicole Stigler scored for Grant, assisted by Madelin Richards.

"I thought we played really well," said Grant coach Olivia Jansen, whose team was tied 1-1 at halftime. "We had chances but we just couldn't capitalize. Our midfielders Savannah Barnes and Madelin played their best games of the season and really helped us be dangerous in the attack. The girls have stayed positive throughout the season and it's starting to pay off for us. It's a great game to build off going into the Larkin tournament this weekend."

Libertyville 2, Warren 1: The Wildcats captured their North Suburban Conference opener, as Morgan Verbeten had a goal and an assist.

Savanna Winiecki opened the scoring for Libertyville (5-1) with a blast from 30 yards out 18 minutes into the first half.

After Warren pulled even on a goal by Cate Cullison, Verbeten put Libertyville back in front in the 51st minute with her sixth goal of the season assisted by Jada Higgins.

Kendall Edwards made 5 saves in net for the Wildcats.

"I'm pleased with the effort out of my team today, but we still have areas we can improve upon," Libertyville coach Shannon Etnyre said. "Jada and Morgan are starting to get comfortable with each other up top, which shows in their combination play tonight. It's always great to get a conference win on the road, especially against a side as solid as Warren."

Lake Zurich 7, Waukegan 0: Kristin Brousseau had 2 goals and 2 assists, Saffire Selof added 2 goals and 1 assist, and the Bears built a 4-0 lead by halftime of the North Suburban Conference match.
