Baseball: Jacobs takes down Hampshire

Jacobs exploded for 8 runs in the middle innings to grab an 11-5 Fox Valley Conference baseball win over Hampshire (7-6, 1-4) Thursday.

Down 4-1 entering the fourth, Jacobs (4-2-1, 2-0) rallied 4 runs across and grabbed a 5-4 lead. The Golden Eagles used another 4 spot in the fifth fueled by Lian Oreskovich's 2-run homer, which gave the Eagles the lead for good. Spencer Foulks hit 2 doubles while Oreskovich and Daniel Murray (1-for-3) each provided 2 RBI. Pitcher Austin Asplen (1.2 IP, 0H, 3 K, 3BB) got the win in relief of starter Adam Sonnefeldt (3.0 IP, 6 H, 4R, 3ER, 2K, 1BB) and reliever Nolan Johnson.

Hampshire's Trevor Laffin went 3-for-3 with 1 RBI and a walk while Zach Golden led the team in RBIs with 2 as the Whip-Purs' losing streak increased to 4.

Dundee-Crown 4, CL South 2: A 4-run third did the trick for the Chargers in a FVC win over the Gators (3-5-1, 0-3). Evan Wenc's RBI double started it off and an error on J Waldron's grounder brought in 2 more runs for a 3-1 lead. Dundee-Crown (3-7, 2-2) added another run on a wild pitch, which gave enough run support for Joey Marczyk (2 R, 1ER, 4H, 4K, 5BB), who pitched 6 solid innings to get the win on 99 pitches while Dylan Palatier earned the save. Erik Hedmark led D-C with 2 hits while South's Kyle Lang, who suffered the loss on the mound despite 13 strikeouts and just 1 earned run, went 2-for-2.

Geneva 3, St. Charles North 3 (8 inn.): This Upstate Eight River tilt that provided just 1 extra base hit by Geneva's Nick Black ended tied in extras. The last runs for both teams came when Geneva rallied for 2 in the fifth to knot it at 3 after Nathan Dewey singled to center and Dominic Guido grounded out for the Vikings (2-6-2, 0-2-2). Josh Rose and Garrett Bragg each had 2 hits for the Geneva while Ryan Thiesse had 3 hits for North (6-1-1, 2-0-1) and Tommy Nelson (RBI) supplied 2 hits.

Batavia 13, Elgin 3: Michael Niemiec had 3 hits while Carter Gette and Justin Pelley drove in a pair of runs each as Batavia (6-2, 3-0) swept the three-game Upstate Eight series from Elgin, which committed 7 errors in the loss. Pelley went five innings and allowed 3 hits with 9 strikeouts and no walks for the win. Tim Mitchell and Cameron Kendall had RBI for Elgin (2-8, 0-3).

Cary-Grove 7, CL Central 3: Tristan Atkins (2B, RBI), Ryan Ignoffo (3 hits, 2B, RBI) and Matt Brieg (2B, 2 RBI) led the Trojans (8-2-1) to a FVC win. Brandon Meinke was the winning pitcher.

South Elgin 10, Marian Central 0: In nonconference action, Patrick Keaty (2B) and Nate Gomez (2B, RBI) each had 2 hits for South Elgin (2-2-1). Ryan Dominick (2B, RBI), Nathan Smith (2B, 2 RBI), Ben Hettele (2 RBI) and Austin Doty (2B) also contributed for the Storm. Robert Zagorski, one of three South Elgin pitchers, picked up the win.

Huntley 1, Glenbard East 0: Evan Tocmo drove in the game's only run as Huntley (11-1) won this nonconference game. The Red Raiders used eight different pitchers who combined on a 5-hitter.

Marmion 1, Brother Rice 0: Right-hander Brandon McPherson's complete game 2-hitter along with Chase Stanke's seventh inning solo blast gave the Cadets (6-7, 2-0) a slim Chicago Catholic Blue victory in dramatic fashion. McPherson struck out 10 and walked 2 on 87 pitches while Marmion edged in hits 7-2.

Westminster Christian 1, Harvest Christian 0: At Judson University, the Warriors (5-7, 2-1) edged their rivals in Northeastern Athletic action thanks to Andrew Kurcz, who scored the game-winning run from third on an error with 2 outs. Frankie Schlaffer earned the win in this pitchers duel giving up just 2 hits with 3 strikeouts and 1 walk in 5⅓ innings pitched while Mason Runkel notched the save. Harvest (6-2, 3-1), led by Grant Young's 2 hits, watched Zach Pawelek provide 6 solid innings of 4-hit ball on 1 run (0 ER) with 2 strikeouts and 2 walks.

ACC 14, St. Edward 4: Mac Doherty had 3 hits with 2 RBI and Chris Cartwright doubled and drove in 3 runs to lead Aurora Central Catholic (10-3), which scored 11 runs in the first inning, to this Metro Suburban win. Alex Rakas (2B, 2 RBI) and Eric Valles (2 hits, 2 RBI) also contributed for the Chargers. Matt Jeter, one of three pitchers for ACC, picked up the win. Matthew Schimbke had 2 hits for St. Edward (2-12).

Aurora Christian 14, South Beloit 0: In a Northeastern Athletic Conference game, Trey Madsen and Clark Turek each had 3 hits and an RBI for the Eagles (8-1). Also contributing were Jake Kuntzendorf (2 doubles, 3 RBI), Zach Zavasnik (2 hits, 3B, 2 RBI), Sam Tickel (3 hits, 3B, 2 RBI), MJ Stavola (2 RBI) and Eric Hernandez (2B, RBI). Nick Ports was the winning pitcher.
