Softball: South Elgin upends St. Charles North; Giese sets Huntley record
Casey Brennan had 2 hits with a triple and 2 RBI and Alivia Doyle added 2 hits with a double and 3 RBI as South Elgin surprised St. Charles North 6-4 Wednesday in an Upstate Eight Conference softball game.
Geneva Pollman added a triple for the Storm (4-5) and Sidney Strama was the winning pitcher.
Grace Sobieski had 3 hits and Olivia Oborne 2 RBI for SCN (3-2). Jillian Waslawski was the losing pitcher.
Huntley 12, Leyden 3: Tiffany Giese (8-0) went 4 innings and allowed 6 hits while picking up her 73rd career pitching win to become Huntley's all-time wins leader in this nonconference game at Bandits Stadium in Rosemont. Leading the offense for the Red Raiders (9-1) were Marley Reicher (3 hits, RBI), Autumn Kasal (2 hits, 3B, 2 RBI), Sofia Tenuta (2 hits, 2B, 3 RBI) and Kendra Mitchell (3 RBI). Brittany Bower pitched the final three innings, striking out seven.
Batavia 15, Glenbard East 5: Jaelen Lisberg (2 hits, 2B, RBI), Kaylan Waldron (2 hits, 2 RBI), Cassidy Carby (2 hits, 3B, 3 RBI), Hanna Mackowiak (3 RBI) and Aly Bondurant (2 hits, 2 RBI) led Batavia to this UEC win. Waldron struck out six and walked one to earn the win in relief.
Geneva 5, West Chicago 0: Ali Dierks had a home run and Emily Viebrock pitched aa 3-hitter to lead Geneva to this UEC win. Katie Keller and Analise Bragg added doubles for the Vikings (6-1, 2-0).
East Aurora 14, Elgin 11: Caitlyn Keith (2 RBI), Abby Sensor (2 hits, RBI) and Loanis Churrero (RBI) led Elgin (0-4, 0-1) in its UEC loss.
Cary-Grove 6, Prairie Ridge 5: Alina Krembuszewski (3 hits) doubled and scored on a single from Anna Whitaker (2 hits, 3 RBI) in the bottom of the seventh inning as Cary-Grove pulled out the Fox Valley Conference win. Jill Deering had a home run and Frankie Cruz a double for the Trojans (5-1). Emma Hill was the winning pitcher.
Kaneland 9, Morris 2: Hannah Theobald had 2 hits and 6 RBI to lead the Knights (5-3, 2-0) to a Northern Illinois Big XII East win. Donatela Sommesi added 3 hits for Kaneland and McKenna Ryan picked up the win in the circle, allowing 7 hits with 6 strikeouts.
Jacobs 4, Lake Zurich 1: Winning pitcher Delaney Garden (7 hits, 8 Ks, 0 BBs) had 3 hits to lead Jacobs (4-2-1) to the nonconference win. Kerri Healy added 2 hits for the Golden Eagles while Emily Pena had 2 hits with a double and 4 RBI and Gaby Silva added 2 hits.
Grant 9, CL South 8: Carly Chovanec (2 hits, HR, 2 RBI), Christina Toniolo (2 hits), Brooke Kuffel (2 hits, 2B, RBI), Alyssa Niketopoulos (2 hits, 2 RBI) and Baylee Kassel (2B) led Crystal Lake South (4-1) in its nonconference loss.
Burlington Central 12, Harvard 1: Winning pitcher Julia Barnes (3 IP, 2 hits, 7 Ks, 0 BBs) had 2 hits with a double and 2 RBI and Reilli Gardner had 2 hits and an RBI for the Rockets (6-3) in this Kishwaukee River win. Danielle Yurgil added 2 RBI and Abby Sanders had 2 hits and 2 RBI for BC.
ACC 7, Rosary 2: In a nonconference game, Dani Brown struck out 16 and allowed hits and a walk for Aurora Central Catholic (8-4).
