Baseball: DeLuga delivers as Lake Zurich blanks Zion-Benton

Sophomore Noah DeLuga pitched a 3-hit shutout, striking out 13, and Lake Zurich's baseball team beat visiting Zion-Benton 4-0 in North Suburban Conference action on Wednesday.

Johnny Casey was 3-for-3 with a double for the Bears, who won their fifth game in a row. Sophomore Anthony Mangano, an Iowa commit, went 3-for-4 with an RBI, a run scored and 2 stolen bases.

Lake Forest 1, Warren 0: Junior Peter Turelli fired a no-hitter, as the Scouts held on for the North Suburban Conference win.

Turelli struck out five and walked two. Caleb Durbin paced the Lake Forest offense, going 3-for-3 with a triple and double.

Warren starter Riley Kocen pitched 5⅓ innings, allowing 1 run, 4 hits and 3 walks, while striking out seven.

Wauconda 4, Lakes 0: Junior Marcus Keller pitched a 3-hit shutout, striking out five and walking three, as the host Bulldogs won in Northern Lake County Conference action.

Wauconda got 2-for-3 efforts from Brock Glavey (2 doubles, RBI), Danny Sperling (2 RBI) and Jake Harmon.

Libertyville 15, Waukegan 0: Four pitchers - Ryan Klainos, Daniel Richardson, Scott Bonebrake and Brian Nelson - combined to throw a 5-inning no-hitter, as the Wildcats won in North Suburban Conference action.

Klainos earned the win, tossing 2 innings.

Micah Holzwarth led the Libertyville offense, going 3-for-3 with 3 doubles and 4 RBI. Garrison Bennett singled and knocked in 2 runs, and Griffin Murphy doubled.

Grayslake Central 11, Round Lake 0: Nic Presutti had a double and 2 singles, and the Rams broke open a close game by plating 6 runs in the top of the fifth inning of the Northern Lake County Conference game.

Ray Bradley tossed 4 innings of 1-hit baseball, striking out four in picking up his third win of the season and helping the Rams improve their record to 8-0 to start the season. Junior Ethan Peterson tossed a scoreless fifth.

In addition to Presutti's 3 hits, Benton Troehler and Marcus Maristella both had doubles, and Tony Neuman had a hit and 3 RBI.

Grant 8, Antioch 2: Henry Kusiak was 4-for-5 and scored 4 runs, Chase Maifield went 3-for-5 with an RBI and 2 runs, and the visiting Bulldogs beat the Sequoits in Northern Lake County Conference action for the second day in a row.

Chris Nesterowicz (1-2) pitched 5 innings, allowing no earned runs, for the win, and Jay Patel notched the save.

Mikal Ashley was 1-for-3 with an RBI for Grant (9-2, 2-0).

Carmel 9, Glenbrook South 4: Ben Wiegman went 3-for-3 with a double for the Corsairs in their nonconference win.

Sean Lynch Jr. also doubled for Carmel, Robert Ramirez was 1-for-3 with 2 RBI, and Brandon Banker finished 1-for-2 with 2 walks.
