Softball: Streamwood's Crocilla shuts out West Aurora

Taylyr Crocilla pitched a gem for Streamwood on Tuesday, allowing just 3 hits while striking out six in a 6-0 Upstate Eight crossover softball win over West Aurora.

Tessa Freedman was the only player on either team to record 2 hits; she had a triple and 2 RBI. Corinne Angle, Becky Roncone and Sydney Wagner also drove in runs for the Sabres (3-1, 1-0).

Gab Drager took the loss for West Aurora despite 9 strikeouts.

Geneva 11, Glenbard East 5: The Vikings (5-1, 1-0) jumped to a 9-0 lead after two innings on the way to an Upstate Eight crossover win. Aly Dierks improved to 4-0 while Katie Keller tripled and Sydney Erdmann doubled.

St. Charles East 6, West Chicago 3: The Saints (7-1, 2-0) scored twice in the top of the seventh to tie the game and three times in the ninth to win it. Madelyn Rouse pitched all 9 innings, striking out 13 without a walk. Alex Wooten, Maddy Stout and Krista Sbarra had 2 hits, and Maddie Candre drove in 2 runs.

Larkin 11, East Aurora 0: The Royals (1-4, 1-0 in the UEC) got big days from Haley Bohne (2-3 HR, 2B, 4 RBI), Kiara Villa (3-5, 3 runs), Kathy Garcia (3-3, 3B), Liz Bowman (3B, 2 RBI), Katie Turner (2-3, RBI) and Elizabeth Edgar (2-3, RBI). Villa earned the win in the circle, striking out four.

South Elgin 23, Elgin 0: The Storm (3-5, 1-0) won their Upstate Eight opener as Geneva Pollman, Allyssa Kendall, Sami Koss and Sophia Salazar combined for the shutout. Koss and McKenna Eichholz both had 4 hits and 3 RBI, and Casey Brennan, Julianna Battaglia and Pollman all had 3 hits. Battaglia also drove in four runs.

Jacobs 14, CL Central 5: Savannah Svedman went 3-for-3 with 5 RBI, and Emily Pena was 4-for-5 with 3 RBI for the Golden Eagles (3-2-1). Delaney Garden and Sarah Lynch both added 2 hits and Jess Mrzlak scored 4 runs. Katie Armstrong pitched the final 4 innings of relief, allowing 2 hits and no runs with 4 strikeouts.

Cary-Grove 7, McHenry 5: The Trojans (4-1, 1-0) prevailed behind Emma Hill, who allowed only 2 earned runs in her 7 innings, striking out five. She also had 2 hits at the plate, as did Alina Krembuszewski. Katy Wierczorek tripled and drove in 2 runs.

Prairie Ridge 13, Hampshire 2: Katie Del Re had the only RBI for the Whip-Purs (2-3, 0-1), who fell behind 11-0 after two innings in the Fox Valley Conference loss.

St. Edward 4, Elmwood Park 3: St. Edward (1-2) won its first game of the season behind Jessy Kramp, who finished with 12 strikeouts while allowing just 2 walks and 1 earned run in 7 innings. Preston Reeves went 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Kramp also had an RBI.

Illiana Christian 1, Aurora Central Catholic 0: The Chargers (7-4) lost despite a 2-for-2 day by Dani Brown who also fanned 17 in 7 innings, allowing 2 hits and no walks.

Kaneland 9, Yorkville 7: The Knights (4-2, 1-0) picked up a Northern Illinois Big XII win led by Hannah Theobald who went 3-for-4 with 4 RBI. Emilee Erickson was credited with the victory allowing 5 hits and 3 runs over 5 innings, striking out 11. McKenna Ryan threw two innings in relief.
