Girls water polo: Hersey wins at BG, protects East lead

Hersey's girls water polo team survived a close call at Buffalo Grove to remain unbeaten overall and in the Mid-Suburban East on Monday.

Senior Katie Lindgren's fourth-quarter goal was the difference as the Huskies edged Buffalo Grove 5-4.

Annie Lindgren, Ashley DaSilva and Tamara Mladjenovic also had goals for Hersey (17-0, 6-0), which holds a 1-game lead over Elk Grove for the divisional lead.

Cecelia Carlson had 2 goals to lead Buffalo Grove (7-9, 1-5).

Conant 10, Schaumburg 4: Junior Olivia Olszewski (4 goals), senior Nia Tsoulos (3), senior Amy Rodriguez (2) and sophomore Abigail Hanley (1) scored the goals for visiting Conant.

Senior Lauren Day made 8 saves for the Cougars (15-2, 6-0), who maintained their hold on the MSL West lead.

Junior Kailey Cordova had 3 goals for Schaumburg (6-9, 2-4) and senior Ingrid Hay added 1.

Palatine 9, Hoffman Estates 3: The host Pirates (2-16, 1-5) jumped out in front 4-0 after one quarter and never looked back in the MSL West match up.

Leading the way for Palatine were senior Natalia Koval (4 goals) and freshman Maggie O'Brien with 3, while seniors Kiki Herbst and Ellis Nelson both had one. Senior goalkeeper Claire Davis made 9 saves.

Hoffman (5-13, 1-5) received its goals from Abigail Fuscone, Hannah Ouimet and Haryumi Minobe.

Elk Grove 12 Wheeling 5: Elk Grove led 6-1 at half en route to its MSL East triumph. Leading the visiting Grens (9-3, 5-1) were Kaylee Hatfield (4 goals, 2 steals), Gillian Guerra (3 goals 2 assists), Alyssa Bonilla (3 goals, 3 assists, 3 steals, 4 ejections drawn).

EG keeper Melena Herrera made 18 saves and had 2 assists against the Wildcats (1-8, 0-6).

Barrington 6, Fremd 4: The visiting Broncos (8-3, 5-1) pulled out a victory stay within 1 game of division-leading Conant in the MSL West.

Fremd slipped to 7-8 overall and 3-3 in the division.

Prospect 14, Rolling Meadows 11: Host Prospect was led by Colleen Doyle (8 goals) and Ann Fulk (4 goals) while Monica Sanchez and Connie Vuong each added 1 goal in the MSL East match.
