Boys water polo: Buffalo Grove extends MSL East lead
Mid-Suburban East boys water polo leader Buffalo Grove passed a big test Monday in earning a 6-3 victory at Hersey.
The defending divisional Bison champion came up with 3 fourth-quarter goals on their way to a key win against their closest pursuer in the East Division.
Buffalo Grove (14-2, 6-0) now holds a 2-game lead over Huskies (9-3, 4-2), and the Bison have won both of their head-to-head matchups.
Michael Goubine scored 2 goals to lead the BG, and getting 1 apiece were Dan Verdico, Billy Wade, Kacper Aniecko and Carlos Salgado.
Hersey's scoring was supplied by Jack Casey, Misha Nikoforav and James Lawrence.
Barrington 17, Fremd 10: The host Broncos (11-1, 6-0) maintained their MSL West lead behind a game-high 8 goals from Steven Fischer and 3 apiece from Dan Emary and Aiden Roth.
Senior Derek Warnstedt led the effort for Fremd (5-7, 3-3) with 6 goals.
Wyatt Lindquist stopped 14 shots for Barrington (11-1, 6-0).
Elk Grove 13, Wheeling 2: Paolo Losacco and Amar Patel both finished with 3 goals and 1 assist to pace the Grenadiers (5-10, 3-3) in MSL East play.
Nick Rosenorn had 1 goal and 2 assists as Elk Grove improved to 5-10 and 3-3, while Wheeling dropped to 0-8 and 0-5.
Conant 12, Schaumburg 2: The host Cougars (10-4, 5-1) stayed 1 game back of division-leading Barrington by handling the vsiting Saxons (5-11, 2-4).
Palatine 21, Hoffman Estates 12: Sam Adame (9 goals, 5 steals, 3 assists), Sean O'Brien (7 goals, 8 steals, 2 assists) and Jerome Gabriel (3 goals, 1 assist, 2 steals) led the visiting Pirates (4-8, 2-4) in the MSL West matchup.
Goalkeeper Connor Wheatley blocked 8 shots by Hoffman (0-14, 0-6).
Greg Baranov led the scoring effort for the Hawks with 6 goals, and teammate EJ Merza had 3.
