Boys volleyball: St. Viator takes Vernon Hills in 2
St. Viator's boys volleyball team improved to 3-4 this season after earning a 25-17, 25-21 victory against Vernon Hills on Wednesday.
Leading the charge for the Lions were senior setter/opposite Will Heneghan (3 aces, 11 kills, 3 blocks, 8 digs) and junior setter Joe Marchiori (12 assists, 4 digs).
"We played a very sound all-around game," said St. Viator coach Jimmy Neill. "Hard work in the gym this week paid off on the court tonight. We competed at a high level and were successful."
Leyden d. Maine West: The host Eagles got 10 kills from Robert Elem in earning a comeback win, 15-25, 25-16, 25-23.
Other key contributors for Leyden (2-1) were Tom Radziszewski (7 kills, 4 blocks), Rodrigo Caldera (25 assists) and Jesse Federico (29 digs).
Maine West's Liam Skinner had a big effort with 10 kills and 8 blocks, and Danny Rice and Mason Robbins both had 6 kills and 2 blocks.
Joining the effort for the Warriors (4-3) were Dylan Macariola (4 kills), Shivam Patel (4 kills, 2 blocks), Faraz Bashir (18 digs), Nick Stasch (11 assists, 2 aces), Simon Grimm (9 assists).
