Softball: Meyer, Barrington walk away from own quad still perfect

The walk-off kid did it again.

For the second straight game, Tori Meyer delivered a winning hit in the bottom of the seventh inning.

This time, she was down to her last strike.

With the base loaded, two outs and her team trailing 3-2, Meyer lined the ball to right center for a double that scored Jessica Bellis and Caroline Hoppe for a dramatic 4-3 win over previously unbeaten Huntley (7-1).

The Fillies went on to defeat Mundelein 11-1 in their own quad at the Fields of Dreams on Saturday.

It was nine days ago when Meyer's single up the middle with no outs scored 2 runs in the bottom of the seventh to give Barrington a 4-3 win over Warren in the championship game of the Spring Fling.

"Tori is so composed in those type of situations," said Barrington coach Perry Peterson of the junior DePaul recruit. "She doesn't get cheated in her pressure at-bats."

Bellis began the bottom of the seventh with a walk and Hoppe followed with a windblown infield single.

After a strikeout, Kendall Peterson drew a walk to load the bases.

An infield popout for the second out put Meyer in the batter's box with the Fillies' perfect record (6-0) on the line.

Meyer's big hit gave her the win and the Red Raiders their first loss.

Meyer (3-0) went the final four innings, giving up 6 hits while striking out six.

Samantha Murphy (2-for-3, RBI) was Barrington's only multiple hitter in the game that was a rematch of last year's sectional title game at Huntley which was won by the Fillies 13-2.

In the win over Mundelein, Hoppe (2-0) went all seven innings. She struck out six and tossed a 5-hitter.

Abbey Jacobsen (1-for-2, 2 RBI) belted her second homer of the season, a 2-run shot with Peterson on base in the top of the fourth inning for the game-winning RBI.

Multiple hitters for the Fillies were Katherine Stagnito (2-for-4, 4 RBI), Murphy (2-for-3, 3 runs) and Meyer (2-for-3, 1 run).

"I thought it was a good day for the Fillies," added Peterson, whose career record advanced to 785-184. "One of the biggest challenges we have is learning to compete under pressure. Moments liked we experienced today will help with the girls' confidence."

Mundelein 10, Elk Grove 4: Freshman pitcher Olivia Masnica belted her first varsity home run leading off the bottom of the third inning. Her sophomore catcher Katie Pendowski (2-for-3) had a double in the Grens' first game of the Barrington quad.

Huntley 12, Elk Grove 2 (5 inn): Elk Grove (0-3) had 3 hits in the game, one apiece from Masnica, Jaimie Klicka and Brook Baldassarre.
