Softball: Persistence serves Grayslake North
Grayslake North's softball team battled back for the second time in two days.
The outcome was better this time for the Knights.
Grayslake North scored 4 runs in the fourth at Mundelein to even up the nonconference game, before adding five more runs over the next three innings en route to a 9-7 win over the Mustangs on Friday.
The Knights, who lost to Crystal Lake South on Thursday, improved to 2-1.
Grayslake North junior Grace Brown (2-for-4, 4 RBI) ripped her first home run of the year, a line-drive blast in the sixth with a runner aboard. Freshman Meghan Delahunty (2-for-5) doubled and drove in a run. Faith Standerski (2 RBI) and Caitlin Barenbaum both had 3 hits.
For Mundelein, Breanna Adams (3-for-4) hit a solo homer in the seventh to pull the Mustangs within two. Adams also doubled, as did Kira Buckner and Cheyenne Pellettiere. Peyton Pribyl tripled. Allison Lambert finished with 3 RBI.
Woodstock North 15, Wauconda 4: Sydney Rodgers doubled twice for the visiting Bulldogs in their nonconference loss.
Rodgers (2 runs) and Kayla Serio (double, 2 RBI) were both 2-for-3 for Wauconda. Woodstock North scored 4 runs in the first inning, five in the third and six more in the fourth.
Vernon Hills 10, Lake Forest 3: On Thursday, the host Cougars opened their season in winning fashion, pounding out 15 hits, including 9 doubles.
Delaney Bowen was 3-for-4 with a double, triple and 2 RBI for Vernon Hills. Tatiana Guletsky (2-for-3, RBI) and Nicole Piper (2-for-4, 2 RBI) each doubled twice. Rachel Wright (2-for-4), Meg Finerty, Alexi Viviano and Mackenzie Mahler also had doubles.
Madison Johnson allowed 1 earned run in 4 innings to earn the win, and Hannah Monteith notched a 3-inning save.
Woodstock North 7, Lakes 5: On Wednesday, the visiting Eagles fell to 1-2 with the nonconference loss, despite a combined 10 hits from Rachel Becker, Molly Dietz and Camryn Jones.
Becker was 4-for-4 with 2 doubles, Dietz went 3-for-4 with 2 doubles, and Jones finished 3-for-4 with a homer.
