Boys track: Barrington goes indoors for Nagel/Saylor victory

Barrington's boys track and field team moved to head of the pack among its Mid-Suburban League foes in the 43rd annual Jim Nagel/Mark Saylor Mid-Suburban League boys track and field indoor invitational at North Central College in Naperville on Saturday.

Many of the conference's marquis performers excelled, notably defending state champs Declan Rustay, a senior from Hoffman Estates, and Luis Cossio, a senior from Barrington.

Rustay took top honors in the 55-meter dash, the 200 dash (in a meet-record 22.31) and the 400 run (50.54). He's the defending outdoors state champ in both the 100 and 200.

In the 400 on Saturday, Rustay edged out another defending state champ - Barrington's Cossio, who finished in 50.69, the same time as Fremd's Jaden Jackson.

Barrington won the 4 x 800 relay in 8:08.78 and had all its relays finish in the top three to finish with 99 points, just ahead of runner-up Fremd (95). Prospect (75) edged out defending indoor champ Hoffman Estates (71) for third place.

Other Broncos winners included Nick Laning in the 1,600 run and Brad Warman in the shot put (57 feet, 4.25 inches).

Fremd had the winning 4 x 200 and 4 x 400 relays, with Jackson anchoring both, along with Ed Worthem winning in the 800 run (2:01.76) and James Leahy taking top honors in the pole vault (13-0).

Schaumburg's Victor Olaitan won the 55 hurdles in 7.78, and Hersey's Ryan Theisen and Josh Methner went 1-2 in the 3,200.

Wheeling's Lawrence Knish won both the high jump (6-5), and long jump (22-2), and Hoffman Estates' Marshall Davis was tops in the triple jump (44-4.75).
