Boys water polo: Buffalo Grove opens East action by topping Hersey
Buffalo Grove took an important first step toward an attempted repeat championship in the Mid-Suburban East by handling visiting Hersey 14-7 on Monday in boys water polo.
It was tied 3-3 after the first quarter and 5-5 at the half before the Bison got some separation with a 5-goal third quarter.
Senior Kevin Carr had 4 goals for Buffalo Grove, and Jack Casey and Misha Nikiforav had 2 each for the Huskies.
Conant 10, Schaumburg 3: Junior Alex Hirjoi led the Cougars with 5 goals while Brian Cho, Jusitin Lim, Jake Lydon, Christian Snopek and Spencer Urban each had one.
Goalie Harris Dibek stopped 7 shots for the Cougars.
Senior Matt Soltau had all the goals for Schaumburg, which received 5 saves from goalie Mike Hahn.
Barrington 9, Fremd 4: The defending MSL West champs got off to a winning start in divisional play by picking up a victory on the road.
Palatine 18, Hoffman Estates 7: Senior Sean O'Brien led the Pirates with 7 goals and 13 steals while senior Jerome Gabriel and sophomore Sam Adame each added 4 goals as the host Pirates topped visiting Hoffman Estates 18-7 in Mid-Suburban West play.
O'Brien and Gabriel also had a pair of assists while Adame had one.
Senior Glen Ingebritson added 3 goals for Palatine while senior goalie Connor Wheatley stopped 9 shots.
Prospect 21, Rolling Meadows 4: Dan Macina powered a potent attack for host Prospect with 7 goals, while senior Josh Dellorto accounted for all of Rolling Meadows' scoring in his MSL East debut.
