Batavia grad Frazier picking up awards at Wheaton
Batavia alum Hannah Frazier is making a habit out of winning weekly awards.
For the third time this season, Frazier has been named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin women's basketball player of the week.
A sophomore forward and mathematics major at the college, Frazier helped Wheaton to a 2-0 mark during her most recent award time frame. That included a win over No. 14 Illinois Wesleyan where she scored 21 points on 7-for-10 shooting to go with 4 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals - snapping Wesleyan's 16-game winning streak.
Frazier, the 2015-16 Honorary Co-Captain of the Daily Herald's Fox Valley All-Area team, also scored 13 points and had 8 rebounds and 3 assists in 22 minutes of action in a 68-40 win on the road at North Park.
Frazier also won the award on back-to-back weeks for the periods Jan. 8 and 15.
Through midweek, Frazier was leading the team in scoring at 15.1 points per game on the strength of a .508 shooting percentage from the field.
She also has been money from the free-throw line this season where she has hit 86 of her 100 attempts, while also ranking second on the team in rebounds at 5.4 per game. Frazier also has 41 assists against only 30 turnovers and has blocked 40 shots while stealing 28 balls.
Frazier scored 27 points in a recent road win at Augustana, had 25 points at Illinois Wesleyan in the first meeting of the two teams back in December and had 24 points in a road game at Carthage. To date, Frazier has been held to under 10 points in only three of the team's 23 games and has scored 20 or more points six times.
Wheaton was 18-4 overall and 11-2 in CCIW action through Tuesday.
Pryor at Western: Burlington Central graduate Sam Pryor is a contributor on the Western Illinois University women's basketball team.
In a recent 98-46 blowout of Eureka College, Pryor had 8 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists in 20 minutes of action.
In a 103-68 victory against Omaha, Pryor had 9 points and 5 rebounds in 15 minutes of action. Pryor is a 6-foot guard in her sophomore season at Western. She made the 2016-2017 Summit League spring academic honor roll as a freshman.
Rosary student-athletes headed to college: Eight Rosary High School athletes in the Class of 2018 have committed to continue their respective sports at the college level.
Mackenzie Adkins (Geneva resident) will swim for the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Brooke Delahanty of Sugar Grove will run cross-country and track at Illinois.
Claire Hengesbaugh of St. Charles will run cross-country and track at Loyola-Chicago, while Julianne Hutchison will play soccer at Jacksonville (Florida) University.
Samantha Laurich (Yorkville) will swim at Grand Valley State in Allendale, Michigan, while Camryn Stried (Elburn) will swim at the University of Cincinnati.
Maya Sullivan (Montgomery) will play volleyball at the University of Miami (Florida) and Maura VanBogaert (Elburn) will play softball at Franciscan University in Steubenville, Ohio.
Stanfa at Loras: Geneva graduate Molly Stanfa recently completed her senior season as part of the Loras College women's soccer team in Dubuque, Iowa.
Stanfa finished her career at Loras strong. After being a defender her first three years at the school, she played midfield this past season and had 20 shots of which 13 were on goal. Stanfa finished the season with 4 goals and 3 assists. Two of her goals were game-winners and one occurred in the Iowas Conference Championship game against Luther.
Ross at Olivet: Kayla Ross, another Burlington Central product, is a member of the Olivet Nazarene women's basketball team. Ross, as of Wednesday, had started all 27 of the team's games and was shooting .450 from the field and .711 from the free-throw line (69 of 97), while averaging 9.0 points and 4.4 rebounds. Ross is the team leader in assists with 161 against only 59 turnovers. She's also second on the team in steals with 73. Ross is one of five players on the team averaging 9.0 points or better. Olivet is 19-8 overall and 16-2 in conference play.
Douds at North Central: Geneva graduate Billy Douds wrapped up his football career at North Central College in Naperville. Douds helped North Central to a 10-2 mark, which included advancement to the second round of the NCAA Division III playoffs.
A two-year starter at defensive end, the 6-3, 240-pound Douds, who wears uniform No. 99, finished his run at North Central with 66 tackles, 24 ½ tackles for loss, 18 ½ quarterback sacks, 5 forced fumbles an 1 blocked kick.
This past season, the D3football.com preseason All-America second-team pick, had 26 tackles (20 solo), including 8 tackles for loss, 2 fumbles and ranked seventh in the CCIW with 6 quarterback sacks. Douds had a season-high 6 tackles in back-to-back playoff games against Saint John's and Wisconsin-Oshkosh.
Scaccia at Butler: Batavia product Anthony Scaccia ran for 286 yards in 11 games for the Butler University football team this past season. Scaccia scored 4 touchdowns and averaged 4.0 yards per carry for the Bulldogs. He also was versatile out of the backfield, catching 38 passes for 271 yards and 1 touchdown. He ranked fourth on the team in scoring with 30 points (5 total touchdowns).
In a 44-6 win against Morehead State, Scaccia scored the first 2 touchdowns of the game on runs of 2 and 19 yards. He finished with 80 total yards (45 rushing and 35 receiving).
Scaccia was an all-state running back at Batavia who helped Batavia win its first state football title.
