Boys swimming: Hersey finishes run to MSL East title

Hersey's boys swimming and diving team completed its run to the Mid-Suburban East championship by defeating host Elk Grove 135-47 on Friday.

The Huskies went 5-0 against their MSL divisional foes.

Senior Michael Petro won the 50-yard freestyle (22.11) and 100 breaststroke (1:03.61) and had legs on the winning medley and 200 free relays.

Other Huskies winners included Gavin Hill in the 200 free (1:53.23) and 100 fly (56.56), Nick Nocita in diving (273.30) and Stephen Hahn in the 200 IM (2:20.83).

Grens senior Mike Kulpa won the 100 back (59.64) and joined Nick Rosenorn, Christian Tchilikov and Adrian Wlodarz for the winning 400 free relay (3:34.10).

Palatine d. Hoffman Estates: Pirates senior Sean O'Brien had a pair of individual wins and led off the winning 400 free relay to help Palatine in a 104-81 decision.

Senior Mark Heitkotter anchored the winning medley and 200 free relays for Hoffman Estates and also had an individual win in the 50 free (22.81).

Palatine got a 1-2-3 finish in diving from Campbell Boston, A.J. Krambeer and Zach Kolbus, and Hoffman Estates got a 1-2-3 finish in the 100 breast from Greg Baranov, Dylan Kozlick and E.J. Merza.

Other Palatine wins included Stefan Filip in the 200 free (1:55.65), Christian Snyder in the 100 fly (57.32), Jake Klein in the 500 free (5:12.10) and Sam Adame in the 100 back (1:00.55).

Prospect 100, Buffalo Grove 86: The Knights completed a runner-up finish in the MSL East by edging out the host Bison.

Buffalo Grove won both of the freestyle relays, but Prospect got things started with a 1-2 finish in the 200 medley relay.

Knights individual wins came from Aidan Rodriguez in the 200 IM (2:13.67), Cameron Rodriguez in the 100 fly (57.66), Dan Macina in the 100 free (51.00), Kevin Soltys in the 100 back (56.04) and Jacob Kosinski in the 100 breast (1:02.62).

Buffalo Grove junior Daniel Verdico took the top spot in both the 200 free (1:51.35) and 500 free (5:05.13). Other Bison winners were Ben Goldberg in diving (226.80) and Andy Gontko in the 50 free (23.11).

Conant d. Schaumburg: The host Cougars got 1-2-3 finishes in diving (Caleb Savoy, Kyle Jones and Jacob Cosentino) and in the 100 back (Spencer Urban, Alex Hirjoi and Malhar Kate) to get some separation in a 104-82 decision that earned them a third-place finish in the MSL West with a 3-2 dual record.

Schaumburg seniors Tyler Reynolds and Matt Kelland won two individual races each, with Reynolds taking the 200 IM (2:07.35) and 500 free (5:02.37) and Kelland winning the 200 free (1:58.10) and 100 free (51.87). Saxons senior Matt Soltau won the 50 free (22.37) and anchored the winning 400 free relay.

Conant junior Justin Lim won the 100 fly (53.84) and had legs on the winning medley and 200 free relays, and the Cougars' Dylan Pokorny won the 100 breast (1:04.80).

Rolling Meadows d. Wheeling: The Mustangs wrapped up a third-place MSL East finish by topping the host Wildcats 134-50.

Double individual wins for Rolling Meadows came from Jake Pors (50 free, 100 free) and Lukas Slifierz (200 free, 100 back). Single winners for the Mustangs were Andrew Tavares (200 IM), Josh Dellorto (100 fly), and Nate Pardini (100 free).

Wheeling senior Nick Konstantos took top honors in the 100 breast (1:02.
