Elgin tops Westminster, takes 2nd in City Classic
At the Elgin City Classic, the Elgin girls basketball team wrapped up tournament play with a 56-43 win over Westminster Christian to finish in second place.
The Maroons (3-18, 2-1 in the Classic) benefitted from the duo of Dajha Cooper (7 rebounds, 3 steals) and Makenna Downing (2 steals, 2 assists), who each poured in 12 points.
Emily Graves also scored in double figures with 10 points.
Elise Van Noord led Westminster (5-10, 0-3 in the Classic) with a game-high 16 points while Grace Schmitt grabbed 15 rebounds. Mica Glanzer also hauled in 11 rebounds.
Harvest Christian (3-0) won the Classic for its fourth consecutive tournament title.
Elk Grove 54, Jacobs 41: Kerri Healy scored a team-high 16 points while Kyra Cabusao added 12 points in a nonconference loss to the Grenadiers.
Jacobs (6-12) couldn't answer Elk Grove's Megan Murray, who scored a game-high 24 points.
Aurora Central 49, IC Catholic 38: The Chargers (12-8, 4-2) survived IC's pressure defense to grab a Metro Suburban Blue win over the Knights.
Tressa Cwinski led the way with 14 points while Lara Anger also added 10 points.
