Why Trubisky is a huge fan of Saints QB Brees
Saints quarterback Drew Brees has a big fan in Bears quarterback Mitch Trubisky, who was 6 years old when the 17-year veteran was drafted in the second round by the San Diego Chargers in 2001.
"You just look at what he brings to the table as far as accuracy," Trubisky said. "He can throw the ball wherever he wants. He's been doing that for years. And then you go to his intangibles as far as leadership, (and) he's very vocal in and out of the huddle. I've heard he's a great guy off the field as well."
Brees last week became one of just four quarterbacks with 500 TD passes, including playoffs. Peyton Manning, Brett Favre and Tom Brady are the others.
"I'm looking forward to going against him," Trubisky said. "I've been watching film on him for years trying to learn from him. He's got great footwork, a great base, he's good with progressions. I'm looking forward to meeting him and coming out and giving it everything we've got on Sunday."
Award winner:
Before Bears rookie safety Eddie Jackson did it Sunday, the last NFL player to return a fumble and an interception for touchdowns in the same game was the San Diego Chargers' Antonio Cromartie in 2007.
Jackson was named NFC defensive player of the week for his efforts, and his phone blew up with congratulations.
"It was crazy the first two or three days," he said. "But you just have to learn to put it behind you and focus on the next game."
Jackson went 75 yards with the fumble and 76 yards with the interception, the first player in NFL history to return a fumble and an interception for touchdowns of 75 yards or more in the same game. He credited his teammates for making his huge game and the award possible.
"I'm very thankful," he said. "But it's a team effort, especially on the defensive side of the ball. I wish there was an award for all of us because everybody did a great job - the front seven, the back end. Without those guys I wouldn't have won the award."
Jackson returned punts at Alabama and is listed behind Tarik Cohen at that position on the Bears' depth chart. He noted the advantages of returning takeaways compared to punts.
"It helps out a lot, especially when it's offensive guys on the other side of the ball who aren't good tacklers," he said. "You have a lot of chances to make people miss and make big plays."
Coming and going:
The acquisition of Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Dontrelle Inman was officially announced, and linebacker Jonathan Anderson was waived in a corresponding move.
Anderson played in six games this season and had 4 tackles. He played 17 special teams snaps last week and had 2 tackles. He has played in 25 games, including three starts as a rookie in 2015. The Bears hope to re-sign him to the practice squad if he clears waivers.
Injury update:
Guard Kyle Long (ankle), Bryce Callahan (neck) and defensive lineman Mitch Unrein (quad) all returned to full practice.
But wide receivers Markus Wheaton (groin) and Dontrelle Inman, linebacker John Timu (ankle/knee), cornerback Sherrick McManis (hamstring), defensive end Roy Robertson-Harris (hamstring) and quarterback Mark Sanchez (ill) did not practice.
Inman arrived late after his physical following his trade from the Los Angeles Chargers and is expected to practice Friday.
For the Saints; offensive left tackle Terron Armstead (shoulder) and wide receiver Michael Thomas (knee) were limited after not practicing Wednesday, but right guard Larry Warford (abdomen) remained out and isn't expected to play Sunday.
