Girls tennis: Stevenson, Lakes take sectional titles

In Saturday's Class 2A Stevenson girls tennis sectional, the host team added to its unbeaten season.

Stevenson won the team championship with the maximum 36 points.

The Patriots dominated the singles and doubles matches.

Zoe Taylor won the singles title by defeating her own teammate, Athena Kolli, 6-0, 6-0 in the championship match.

In doubles action, Alyssa Glaser and Bronwyn Heidkamp of Stevenson won the championship by topping teammates Katherine Harvey/Elizabeth Ferdman in three sets.

Also earning appearances in the state tournament were Mundelein junior Isabel Alvior, who finished third in singles, and the Mundelein doubles team of Mikayla Edquiban and Alexis Hyde, who placed fourth.

at Highland Park: The host Giants won with 32 points, just ahead of runner-up Lake Forest (26). Libertyville (16 points) topped Warren (10) for third place.

Warren produced a singles state qualifier as sophomore Sabrina Mello placed fourth.

Libertyville will be represented at state by the doubles team of freshman Lily VanDixhorn and freshman Amanda Black, which placed fourth.

Lakes wins sectional: At the Class 1A Antioch sectional, Lakes won the team championship with 23 points, just ahead of the Sequoits (19).

Megan Heuser of Lakes won the singles title with a victory over Wauconda's Sarah Hackman. Antioch's Kelsey Neville defeated Woodstock North's Aly Culotta for third place.

In doubles, Lakes juniors Kylie Jozwik and Melissa Variney earned a state spot with a third-place finish.

At the Vernon Hills sectional, Northside won the team title with 25 points and North Shore Country Day was second with 22.
