Girls volleyball: St. Charles N., Crystal Lake S. win tourney titles
The St. Charles North girls volleyball team improved to 24-3 for the season on Saturday and won the Schaumburg Saxon Invite.
North defeated Grant, St. Viator, and Bartlett in pool play, then went on to beat Schaumburg in the semifinals and Cary-Grove in the championship, marking the fourth year in a row that the Trojans and the North Stars have met in the championship.
Abby Graham had a strong tournament for SCN, finishing with 28 kills, 2 aces, and 27 digs. Amanda Parker had 7 aces, 15 kills and 46 assists. CJ Johnson finished with 5 aces, 10 kills and 16 assists while Katie Lanz had 11 aces, 30 kills, and 32 assists. Gigi Crescenzo added 5 aces, 12 kills, and 23 digs and Lauren Caprini had 6 aces, and 58 digs.
CL South wins at Elk Grove: Crystal Lake South (13-9) went 5-0 for the weekend to win the Elk Grove tournament. The Gators defeated De La Salle, Southland College Prep, Willowbrook, Resurrection and host Elk Grove to earn the title. Emily Slimko (107 assists, 6 blocks),\Kleja Cernauskaite (33 kills, 20 aces, 14 blocks), Aurora Nero (32 kills, 6 aces), Megan House (21 kills, 5 aces), Yianna Kirimis (20 kills, 7 blocks) and Raquel Hess (15 kills, 5 blocks) led CLS throughout the tournament.
