Boys soccer: Franklin scores 5 goals for 21-0 St. Edward

St. Edward‘s boys soccer team, the Metro Suburban Red champs, improved to 21-0 Tuesday. AJ Franklin celebrated Senior Night in style. Franklin totaled 5 goals in his last game at Greg True Field to up his goal output to 56, while Zach Olenek also got into the scoring column. Josh Johansen had a hat trick of assists while Chase Brieger provided 2 and Uriel Carachure one. Keeper Evan Sajtar collected 5 saves for St. Edward, who will attempt to finish the regular season unbeaten when it battles Fenton, ranked No. 17 in the Daily Herald Top 20, Thursday.

West Aurora 2, Bartlett 1: It was a good thing the Blackhawks decided to rally from a 1-goal halftime deficit. Their come-from-behind win coupled with a Glenbard East tie with West Chicago gave West Aurora (16-2-1, 4-1) an outright Upstate Eight Valley division title. In the loss for Bartlett (3-12-3, 0-5) who almost staged a big upset, Anthony Garcia scored on a feed from Johnny Andrade.

St. Charles East 1, Streamwood 0: The Saints (5-9-4, 2-2-1) are coming together at the right time and adding a lot stress to the UEC River race. First it was a 3-0 win over rival St. Charles North last week and this week Truitt Battin's goal helped East upset the Sabres. Keeper Zach Kennedy posted a shutout with 7 saves. The Sabres (10-5-1, 3-1-1) are in a must-win situation against Elgin next Tuesday at Millennium Field if they long for a division title. A win or a tie for the No. 6 ranked Maroons will give Elgin an outright title.

St. Charles North 2, Larkin 1: At Memorial Field, Matt Beaulieu and Jake Persenico each scored goals to down the Royals in UEC River action. Mitchell Bricker had an assist and goalie Bobby Curran's 4 saves also helped the North Stars (10-2-4, 2-1-2). The Royals (11-6-2, 1-5), who tied the match in the 50th minute, saw Aleksandar Zdravkovic connect on a Daniel Serna assist.

Dundee-Crown 2, CL Central 0: The No. 4 ranked Chargers went to 15-0-2 overall during a Fox Valley Conference win over the Tigers. Both Julian Ajroja and Eric Martinez scored second half goals while Kevin Juanechi and Daniel Perez each grabbed assists. Keeper Damian Smiech earned a shutout on 4 saves. They will round out FVC play with Hampshire on Saturday and Jacobs next Tuesday.

Jacobs 5, Prairie Ridge 4 (OT): The Golden Eagles (11-5-2, 5-1) stayed alive in more ways than one against the Wolves, as Noah Melick's fourth and final goal in overtime capped a major comeback in FVC action. The win also kept Jacobs' FVC title hopes alive. Colin Walsh also had a goal.

Huntley 1, McHenry 0: Luke Loprieno nailed the game's only goal in the 53rd minute. Raul Valladares supplied the assist for Huntley (7-12, 3-3) while Andrew Fulcer's 6 saves in net earned him a shutout.

Kaneland 4, Sycamore 1: The Knights (11-3-3, 3-1-2) took home this NI Big XII East win thanks to a slew of contributors. Tucker Jahns led the way with 1 goal and 1 assist while Alex Dohm, Dylan Bock and Chaz Garcia also scored goals. Brian Bartholomew totaled 2 assists while Ulysses Herrera also had 1.

Burlington Central 5, Woodstock North 2: Jack Schramme's 2 goals and 1 assist were too much for the Thunder in Kishwaukee River action. Luke Schramme also had a goal while Nick Varga totaled 2 goals. CJ Heinz dished 2 assists while Nick Guy and Jimmy Badillo supplied assists. Goalie Ryan Parson made 5 saves for the Rockets (5-6-2, 5-3-1).
