Boys cross country: Palatine, Hersey finalize divisional triumphs

Palatine's boys cross country team was back in fine form on Thursday in the Schaumburg triangular on Macnider cross country course at Hoover School.

The Pirates raced to a 15-46 victory over host Schaumburg and also added a 15-50 victory over Hoffman Estates.

Those outcome means Palatine secured its second consecutive Mid-Suburban West division title, and the 14th title in 16 years.

Senior Evan Eckels (16:53) and sophomore Richard Jacobo (16:54) set the tone by going 1-2. Senior Art Oshinson (17:13), junior Joe Ahlgrim (17:16) and senior Henry Lechowicz (17:24) followed as the Pirates swept the top five spots.

Senior Karsten Zielinski (17:28) and senior Mike Baronowski (17:30) placed seventh and eighth in helping Schaumburg to a 16-47 victory over Hoffman Estates.

At Hersey: Hersey rolled to the Mid-Suburban East title by securing a pair of victories at MacArthur Middle School.

The Huskies dominated the triangular meet by securing nine of the top 10 spots in earning the program's first MSL East title since 2013.

Hersey ran to twin 15-50 victories over Buffalo Grove and Elk Grove.

Sophomore Josh Methner (16:12), senior Ryan Theisen (16:13), junior Ryan Buch (16:21), senior Jack Fredian (16:22) and senior Quinn Cunningham (16:32) swept the top five spots for Hersey.

Senior Mitchell Guittar took 13th place to help Buffalo Grove earn a 20-40 victory over Elk Grove.
