Girls volleyball: Lakes meets challenge from Grayslake C.

Lakes' girls volleyball team aced another tough challenge Wednesday night.

Katie Billetdeaux had 6 kills, and the Eagles defeated host Grayslake Central 25-22, 25-17 in a first-place showdown in the Northern Lake County Conference.

Lakes improved to 16-0 and 4-0 in conference play. The Eagles also received contributions from Keelan Bell (4 kills), Erica Grant (4 kills, 10 digs, 1 block), Rachel Orpano (9 assists), Devinn Bell (7 assists) Allison Ulrich (5 digs) and Alyssa Bombicino (5 digs).

Grayslake Central (16-9, 2-1) was led by Cassidy Beshel with 8 kills, Lauren LaBeck with 15 assists and Amber Moser with 3 kills.

Warren d. Mundelein: Ella White pounded 14 kills, Dana Lundtveit added 10, and the Blue Devils outlasted the host Mustangs 29-27, 27-29, 25-18 in a North Suburban Conference thriller.

Warren improved to 17-7 and 3-1 in the NSC. The Blue Devils' other contributors included Abby Berkowicz (5 aces, 16 assists), Amanda Howe (3 digs), Allison Maan de Kok (2 aces, 22 assists), Ora Cohen (1 ace, 6 kills) and Katie Corr (5 kills).

Mundelein (8-13, 2-2) got 11 kills and 3 blocks from Gillian Paul, while Taylor Heath had 6 kills and 6 blocks. Thea Vogt and Alexis Naddy tallied 5 and 4 kills, respectively, Faith Krabbe was 74-of-77 setting with 28 assists, and Diana Orozco served 5 aces for the Mustangs.

Vernon Hills d. Glenbrook North: Sophomore Emma Ginster chalked up 15 digs, as the host Cougars captured a 25-15, 25-20 decision for their first win in Central Suburban League action.

Junior middle hitter Ally Chase had slammed 5 kills to lead Vernon Hills (8-13, 1-4) offensively along with sophomore setter Maddie Bowen, who had 12 assists.

Stevenson d. Libertyville: Sophie Sorenson and Hope Havenhill had 8 and 7 kills, respectively, as the visiting Patriots won 25-20, 25-23 in North Suburban Conference action.

Alex Cuc dished out 19 assists and served 2 aces for Stevenson (12-8, 3-1), while Chloe Robinson registered 12 digs and 2 aces. Lily Cozzi contributed 6 kills, and Natalie Mun served a pair of aces.

Marengo d. Wauconda: On Tuesday night, the visiting Bulldogs lost the nonconference match 27-25, 25-14, despite Savannah Johnson's 2 aces, 10 digs and 8 assists.

Nicole Carazas had 5 kills for Wauconda (9-9), and Jane Sakowicz recorded 13 digs.
