Girls volleyball: Grayslake Central excels at Tremper

In Kenosha-Tremper's girls volleyball invite, Grayslake Central represented Illinois well by taking second place against a handful of Wisconsin schools.

The Rams lost to Westosha Central in the championship game, 25-17, 25-23. They had beaten Kenosha Bradford, Oak Creek and Watertown Luther Prep earlier.

"We played very well against some very strong Wisconsin teams today," Grayslake Central coach Jason Janczak said. "I'm proud of the character, grit, and focus our girls showed throughout the day. Overall it was a good day for us."

Grayslake Central, which is 14-8 overall, got 41 kills and 8 aces on the tournament from Cassidy Beshel. Amber Moser added 32 kills, 4 aces and 15 digs.

Setter Lauren LaBeck racked up 103 assists and Abby Marassa led the defense with 58 digs.

Warren takes third: At the Maine East Blue Demon Invite, Warren went 4-1 for a third-place finish.

The Blue Devils defeated Plainfield East, Maine East, Lane Tech and Niles West but lost to Hersey.

Warren is 15-6 overall.

Vernon Hills at Oak Lawn: Vernon Hills dropped two matches at the Oak Lawn tournament, to Providence and Evergreen Park.
