Girls volleyball: Elgin wins Westminster Christian tourney

The Elgin girls volleyball team went 5-0 Saturday to win the Westminster Christian tournament.

The Maroons (11-9-2) defeated Schaumburg Christian, Woodstock North and Morgan Park Academy in pool play, Willows Academy in the semifinals and Gardner South Wilmington in the finals. Elgin didn't lose a set all day.

Leading the Maroons on the day were Inga Suceska with 14 aces, 54 assists and 18 kills (10 in the championship), Karen Aguirre with 14 aces, 48 digs and 11 assists, Kennedy Venable with 16 aces and 39 kills and Kylie Graves with 28 kills.

Host Westminster Christian finished seventh in the 16-team tournament.

We played in the Westminster Warrior tournament today and finished in seventh place (out of 16). Here are the scores:

The Warriors (7-8) lost to Willows and Schaumburg Christian and defeated Harvard and Lake Forest Academy.

Grace Bickford (13 aces, 10 digs, 20 kills), Kristen Mason (8 aces, 5 digs, 10 kills) and Sophia Hopkins (4 aces, 9 digs, 42 assists, 6 kills) led Westminster.

Asics Preview: Crystal Lake South went 3-2 for the weekend at the Asics Preview, beating Andrew, Hononegah and Oak Park-River Forest and losing to Montini and Minooka. Kleja Cernauskaite had 30 kills, 9 blocks and 7 aces to lead the Gators (6-6) while Aurora Nero added 16 kills, 7 aces and 30 digs and Emily Slimko had 91 assists and 4 aces
