Boys soccer: McKeever's key as Lakes solves Maine East

Shane McKeever scored twice and added an assist, as Lakes rallied to capture a 3-1 win over host Maine East in nonconference boys soccer action Wednesday.

Lakes (3-1) did all of its scoring in the second half to wipe out a 1-0 deficit. Jeff Milostan scored the Eagles' first goal. Andrew Gataeno and Milostan had assists on McKeever's tallies, while Lakes keeper Patrick McMahon had 7 saves in the game.

"Each team played great defense backed up by some quality goalkeeping by both keepers," Lakes coach Kevin Kullby said.

Maine East struck the first goal of the game 15 minutes into the second half, however, the Eagles came right back not but a minute later to even the score on a nifty volley from close range by Milostan off a header pass from McKeever.

McKeever scored minutes later and tallied again, both off headers.

Crystal Lake South 7, Antioch 0: The host Gators led 3-0 at halftime of the nonconference match.

Antioch fell to 1-1.

Grayslake North 3, Grant 0: At Grant, the Knights built a 2-0 lead by halftime of the tournament game.

Grant fell to 1-4-1.

Stevenson 1, St. Francis 0: At Glenbrook South, Anthony Watrach scored with 21 minutes to go in the second half to lift the Patriots in the tournament game. Boler Wu had the assist.

Ethan Kalis had his first shutout of the season, stopping 3 shots, for Stevenson (2-1, 2-0 invite).
