Girls volleyball: St. Viator wins in two over Prospect

St. Viator's girls volleyball team climbed two matches above .500 on Tuesday night with a 25-19, 25-19 nonconference victory over visiting Prospect.

The Lions (5-3) were led on attack by Limestone College recruit Catherine Hickey, who put down 14 kills followed by Kendall Claffey (6 kills), Kate Nottoli (3 kills) and Kayley Liberty (3 kills).

Setter Michaela Mueller was 52-of-53 with 27 assists while also serving 4 aces.

Carrie Leazer led the Lions' back row with 10 digs and Mueller had 8.

Meghan Meredith (4 kills), Elizabeth Abraham (3 kills, 2 blocks) and Sloane Petlak (3 kills, 4 blocks) led the attack for the Knights (0-3), who received 6 assists from Gianna Russo and 5 from Skaggs. Valerie Thomas had 5 digs and Grace Cacini 4.

Maine West d. Leyden: Maine West improved to 3-0 with a 25-11, 25-9 over visiting Leyden in the nonconference match.

Leading a strong service game for the Warriors were Christy Kolosvary (6 aces, 8 assists, 7 digs) and Amanda Grzebien (3 aces, 2 kills). Jessica Riedl contributed 3 kills and 2 blocks while Sophia SaldaƱa added 6 digs.

Wheeling d. Deerfield: Junior Nosa Igiehon put down 6 kills and had 3 blocks for the Wildcats who posted a 25-22, 25-17 nonconference triumph. Rugile Jaciunas added 3 kills for host Wheeling.

Jessica Janowski handed out 11 assists and had 4 aces while Jazmyn Veloso collected 11 digs followed by Nicole Nguyen (8).

Buffalo Grove d. Niles West: Sasha Roshko (8 kills), Nicole Langer (11 kills) Mary Nowlan (8 kills, 4 blocks) and Lauren Horvath (7 kills, 1 block) led host Buffalo Grove (5-3) in a 25-16, 24-26, 25-14 nonconference triumph.

Kristen Lauren Belias served a pair of aces while Maggie Streckert set the attack with 34 assists. Tops in digs were Riley Cross (14), Belias (11), Nina Masciopinto (8), Streckert (7) and Olivia Morini (6).

Naperville North d. Palatine: Naperville North won the nonconference match 25-9, 25-17 over the visiting Pirates, who were playing their season opener.

Lake Park d. Schaumburg: Lake Park won the nonconference match 25-19, 25-13 over the Saxons (1-1).
