Boys soccer: Jacobs knocks off St. Charles North

At the Barrington tournament, the Jacobs boys soccer team was in need of a big, early season win and they got it at the expense of St. Charles North, winning 3-2.

Colin Walsh and Noah Melick commanded play, as Walsh tallied a hat trick while Melick had 2 assists and drew the penalty kick in the 49th minute for the deciding goal. Keeper Anthony Riportella made 8 saves in net for the Golden Eagles (1-2), who avoided going 0-3 out of the gate. The North Stars fell to 3-1 overall despite Bernard Elegbede's play. He had 1 goal and 1 assist while Jake Persenico also added a goal.

St. Edward 7, Montini 0: AJ Franklin turned in his second consecutive hat trick in a dominant win for the Green Wave, now 4-0. Over an old Suburban Christian foe, Franklin also added an assist while Josh Johansen and Uriel Carachure added 1 goal and 1 assist. Carlos Ibarra and Will Gaston also added goals. Earning a shutout in goal with 4 saves was Evan Sajtar.

South Elgin 4, York 1: At the Hillner Classic, Chris Stancyzk garnered 2 goals in a win over the Dukes, giving South Elgin its first victory of the season. Matt McKee and Nick Flores, who also had 1 assist, also found the net for the Storm (1-1-2). AJ Kirkby, Julian Defensor and Eduardo Carillo each had assists.

Grayslake North 2, Cary-Grove 1 (PKs): A shootout decided matters after the former Fox Valley Conference foes tied 1-1 at the end of regulation at the Grant Invite. The Trojans (0-1-1) did see good things out of Sam Carhart, who scored while Riley Conroy assisted. Keeper Sergio Lemus made 3 saves as well.

Barrington 2, Streamwood 1: At Barrington, Jorge Bracamontes accounted for the only Sabres goal in a loss against the host Broncos. Goalie Daniel Dominguez kept Streamwood in it with 4 saves while Oscar Chavez had 1 assist for the Sabres (2-2), who dropped to 1-1 in the tournament.

Buffalo Grove 3, St. Charles East 2: Truitt Battin had 2 goals that weren't enough in this New Trier Invite loss to the Bison. Tyler Villanueva had 1 assist for the Saints (1-2-1).
