Boys soccer: Bode's 11 saves help Geneva topple Wheaton Academy

The Geneva boys soccer team moved to 2-0 under new head coach Jason Bhatta, as a 1-0 nonconference win at Wheaton Academy Saturday came on Erick Anderson's unassisted goal in the second half. Vikings goalie Jeff Bode preserved a shutout in net with 11 saves.

Elgin 2, Oswego East 2: Omar Lopez scored 2 goals, including one unassisted on a power shot and another on a penalty kick for the Maroons (2-0-1) in nonconference action. Goalie Martin Jimenez had 7 saves for Elgin, who trusted 16 shots but gave East 2 PKs.

St. Edward 5, Northridge 2: AJ Franklin's hat trick highlighted a big nonconference win for the Green Wave, who are now 3-0. Northridge knotted the score at 1 in the first half before Franklin went on his scoring binge and St. Edward didn't look back. Will Gaston and Jackson Godgrey also provided goals while Josh Johansen delivered a hat trick of assists. Uriel Carachure and Chase Brieger also garnered assists and goalie Evan Sajtar had 5 saves.

ACC goes 2-0-1 on the road: At the Somonauk tournament, the Chargers (3-2-1) defeated Reed-Custer 8-2 and Plano 4-3 before tying in the championship against the host Bobcats 2-2. Somonauk won the overall title based on goal differential. Oscar Rodriguez netted 4 goals and 1 assist while Kyle Czerak had 3 goals and 2 assists. Brennan Hare posted 2 goals and 4 assists and George Yanez added 1 goal and 4 assists.

Huntley 1, Rockford East 0: The Red Raiders (1-2) posted their first win of the year as Sal Arnieri's PK in the 74th minute downed the E-Rabs. Goalie Kevin Sieb collected a shutout with 9 saves.

Waukegan 5, St. Charles East 1: The Saints (1-1-1) came up empty at the New Trier Invite despite a goal from Truitt Battin and an assist from Tyler Villanueva.

Freeport 3, Burlington Central 2: The Rockets (0-2-1) remained winless despite losing to the Pretzels in a tight match throughout. Ryan Wilmington and Jack Schramme (1 assist) had goals while Victor Rodriguez accounted for 1 assist. Freeport's winning goal came in the 67th minute.
