Boys soccer: Pytlak's production propels Lake Zurich

Andrew Pytlak scored 3 goals to lead Lake Zurich's boys soccer team to a 4-2 win over Jacobs in a nonconference match Thursday night.

Aiman Naqvi also scored for the Bears, while keeper Robert Mepham made 8 saves.

Grayslake Central 0, Vernon Hills 0: The host Rams put 10 shots on frame but came away scoreless in their season opener.

"We moved the ball around pretty well at times and applied some good pressure to force turnovers, but we need to do a better job with our movement in the final third," Grayslake Central coach Tom Hamilton said. "Not a bad performance, but we know we can do better and we'll head into practice tomorrow with that in mind."

Vernon Hills keeper Nick Burrows made 7 saves, and Keven Martinez was credited with 1 save.

"I thought we got better as the game went on from a defensive perspective," Cougars coach Mike McCaulou said. "It was a great game to work on our shape and discipline as a defensive unit. We defended for a good portion of the game, but we did create some chances on the counter and off set pieces. We saw huge improvements from our boys tonight compared to our first game on Monday. We will continue to grow together and develop into a solid team."

Prairie Ridge 6, Grayslake North 0: In the second game of the night at Grayslake North, the Wolves built a 5-0 lead by halftime.
