Boys soccer: Dundee-Crown, Round Lake to meet for North Shore title

For the the second straight game in the North Shore Shootout and the third time this week, Dundee-Crown's boys soccer team is a winner.

The Chargers shut out Lakes 2-0 in the tourney semifinals in Lake Forest on Thursday afternoon.

Dundee-Crown (3-0, 2-0) advances to the championship game and will meet Round Lake (2-0) at 10 a.m. Saturday. The Panthers got past Lake Forest Academy (1-1) in the other semifinal 3-0.

The Chargers' Gerardo Estado scored a goal and assisted Roland Dearborn on D-C's other tally. Keeper Damien Smiech earned the clean sheet, making 3 stops. Both goals were scored in the second half.

"I thought it was a good win for us," Dundee-Crown coach Ray Vargas said. "At the beginning we were a little bit out of it. But we stepped out of it and took it to (Lakes). They pressed up on us a lot early on and caused some problems for us."

Lakes (1-1), after winning its opener on Tuesday, tried to compete against Dundee-Crown but couldn't make the most of their opportunities in the final third of the field.

"(Dundee-Crown) made good on their chances," Lakes coach Kevin Kullby said. "We were a little unfortunate, but I still like how the team played."

The Eagles next play for third place against Lake Forest Academy at 10 a.m. Saturday.

• Round Lake has put together two straight victories, scoring 3 goals in each of them. That steady offensive output has given them a shot at capturing the North Shore Shootout title for the first time.

Antonio Foneca scored twice in leading the Panthers past Lake Forest Academy 3-2 on Thursday in semifinal play. Fonseca had a pair of goals in the Shootout opener against Carmel on Tuesday.

Brian Murguia had the other tally, and Ricardo Orozco picked up a couple of assists.

"It was a great game," Round Lake coach Hugo Tellez said. "We had certain kids that stepped up for us. We're not a team that relies on one person. We're a team that has a lot of players that know how to step up."
