Boys soccer: Adams, Buffalo Grove quickly in fine form

Kyle Adams helped Buffalo Grove get its boys soccer season off to a flying start by scoring 4 first-half goals to lead the Bison to a 5-0 victory over Maine East on Monday night in Park Ridge.

The win for Brad Abels' team was part of the 10th Central Suburban-Mid-Suburban Soccer Challenge which began in 2008, and has the MSL leading it 41-38-16 after going 4-8-0 a year ago.

"It's always nice to start your season with a win, but we're not going to take too much from it because we've got to turn our attention to Stevenson, whom we play today," said Abel, whose club is looking to turn around its fortunes following an 8-10-4 record last season.

"We did a lot of things very well tonight," said Adams. "Especially our distribution, and play along the back line, to help us get a good win."

The senior outside midfielder had too much speed and pace for his Blue Demons counterparts, who at times allowed Adams to run freely up the left side for most of the first half. That led directly to all four of his goals, 2 of which came less than one minute apart.

A tidy finish at nine minutes on his angled attempt got the scoring starter, and and when teammate, Manny Mazariegos put Adams through at the quarter hour, the two-year starter found himself pulled down inside the box.

Adams converted his spot kick at 15 minutes to double the Bison advantage.

Junior Kevin Eloiza kept a well-aimed free kick from Shane Adams alive to allowe Kyle Adams to steer in the third goal of the evening in the 37th minute. It was Kyle Adams again moments later with another strike.

"Buffalo Grove is a well coached team, but three of their first four goals were a result of some mistakes in our own end, and they finished their chances really well," said Blue Demons coach Jeff Bishop.

Maine East got back into the game after the break with some better all-around play from front-to-back. Despite that, they were unable to solve keeper Daniel Sempoch, who along with Jake Salzman shared the shutout.

Sam Turesbekov put the icing on the victory with a sensational left-footed blast in the 62nd minute.

The Bison will play Conant this Friday at the MSL College Showcase at Celtic Park in Palatine in advance of the high-profile Northside College Showcase Invite hosted by New Trier beginning next week.
