Girls swimming: Mikolajewski to lead Barrington's program

Barrington High School has hired Alex Mikolajewski as head coach of the girls swimming program.

Mikolajewski, a onetime competitor at Fremd High School, will also teach physical education at Barrington. He competed collegiately in swimming at Wisconsin-Whitewater and has been as assistant coach in the Barrington Swim Club.

"Alex has built a reputation as not only being a knowledgeable swim coach, but also as a very effective communicator," said Barrington athletic director Mike Obsuszt. "We believe he is an excellent fit for our academic-based athletics and swim programs."

Mikolajewski follows Jim Bart as the Fillies' leader.

Bart, who retired after last school year, led the program to sustained prominence and recently wrapped up a run which included Mid-Suburban League championship efforts in 22 of the last 25 seasons.
