Softball: Geneva, St. Charles North, Burlington Central win regional games

Geneva's softball team was able to outslug Waubonsie Valley 9-7 Wednesday in semifinal action of the Class 4A Yorkville regional.

Alyssa Kramer had a home run and Kaitlyn Plocinski added a double for the Vikings (31-2), who will face either Metea Valley or Yorkville in Saturday's championship game.

Emily Viebrock was the winning pitcher.

St. Charles North 7, Wheaton North 3: Alyssa Eby (3 hits), Allison Moberg and Jillian Waslawski (2 hits) each hit home runs to lead the North Stars (18-9) to a win at their own Class 4A regional. Grace Quinn added 3 hits with a double and 2 RBI and Ashlyn Jozefowicz had 2 hits with a double for SCN, which will play either Fremd or Glenbard West on Saturday for the title. Grace Sobeski added 2 hits and an RBI and Natalie Walters pitched 3 innings in relief to earn the win.

Burlington Central 9, Rockford Boylan 3: At the Class 3A Belvidere regional, Julia Barnes (14-6) allowed just 4 hits with 7 strikeouts and 1 walk to lead the Rockets (17-8) into Saturday's 11 a.m. championship game against the winner of Thursday's game between Belvidere and Genoa-Kingston. Reilly Gardner and Gretchen Schrubbe led the BC offense Wednesday with 3 hits each while Lindsey Jamrozek and Sarah Schmitt (2B) each had 2 hits.

Huntley 8, DeKalb 7: Huntley led 8-1 and then had to hold on at the end for this win in the Class 4A DeKalb regional. Tiffany Giese (25-5) allowed 8 hits with 6 strikeouts and 1 walk and added 2 hits at the plate for the Red Raiders (27-9), who will play the winner of Thursday's Jacobs vs. Hononegah game in Saturday's final. Rylie Poretto (2B, 2 RBI), Sophia Tenuta (2 hits, HR, 3 RBI), Autumn Kasal (2 hits, 3 RBI) and Taylor Pacana (2B) led Huntley's offense Wednesday.

West Aurora 3, Naperville Central 0: At their own Class 4A regional, the Blackhawks (28-7) won behind 13 strikeouts from Hannah Beatus. West Aurora will play Oswego East Friday in the title game. Oswego East downed Batavia 15-4 in Wednesday's first semifinal.

Barrington 9, CL South 1: Crystal Lake South trailed just 2-1 when this Class 4A Hampshire regional game resumed after being suspended by weather on Tuesday but Barrington plated 5 runs in the fifth inning and went on to the win. Carly Chovanec had 3 hits for CLS (17-14) and Brittany Baker added 2 hits.
