Colin Hawkinson hammered 8 kills, Sam Kharasch registered 27 digs, and Libertyville's boys volleyball team defeated Grayslake North 25-12, 25-11 in nonconference action Tuesday night.

The Wildcats improved to 32-2.

Ryan Hirschel and Carter Schaffnit each dished out 14 assists for the Wildcats. Andrew Spence added 6 kills and 2 blocks, Brendan Cook had 5 kills and Jack Stevens put down 4 kills. Libertyville's other contributors included Shane Feieriesel (3 kills), Mark Demaree (2 blocks), Zack Ford (2 kills, 2 blocks), Ben Skeens (3 kills, 2 blocks) and Sammy Storz (6 digs).

Vernon Hills d. Maine West: The Cougars rallied in Central Suburban League North Division action, winning 19-25, 25-17, 25-23.

Jake Fiarito dished out 33 assists and added 3 kills for Vernon Hills (16-18, 5-4). Drake DeBoer and Derrick Jones had 10 and 9 kills, respectively, for the Cougars. Leo Turner had 7 kills and John Otoo pounded five.

"It took us a while to get going, and that's totally on me," Cougars coach Chris Curry said. "But when we finally started to move our feet and hit a little smarter, things turned nicely. They usually do when you hustle a little.

"Jake Fiarito is running such a smart offense right now. He's making all the play calls that we're thinking before we can. He's just a really great setter. And on a night like tonight, you need that kid putting the hitters into good situations. He always does. Now we don't always get the kill, but the opportunities are there thanks to Jake."

Sophomore libero Sammy Adkisson served 17 of 18 with 4 aces, and senior defensive specialist Andrew Kim (9-of-9 serving, 2 aces) also earned Curry's praises. Kim served an ace on match point.

"He hits spots better than anyone on the team," Curry said of Kim.
