Baseball: South Elgin, Batavia take UEC games

Bryant Diel had a big day at the plate with 3 hits including a home run and 3 RBI as South Elgin downed Glenbard East 14-5 Monday in Upstate Eight Conference Valley Division baseball action.

Adam Walker added 3 hits with a double and 4 RBI for the Storm (17-4, 15-2) while Nate Gomez had 2 hits and 3 RBI and Kevin Barry added a double and 2 RBI.

Jack Stancl was the winning pitcher.

Batavia 10, Elgin 0: Anthony Carlini had 3 hits with a double and 3 RBI and winning pitcher Glenn Albanese (6 IP, 3 H, 11 Ks, 2 BBs) added 2 hits for Batavia (8-15, 5-12) in its UEC River win. Jake Robinson added a double and 2 RBI for the Bulldogs. JC Fortmann, Kyle Coates and Hayden Gibson had the only hits for Elgin (5-24, 3-19).

West Chicago 11, West Aurora 10: Connor Palmby (2 hits) and JJ Rivera (2 RBI) each had doubles for West Aurora (8-21, 7-13) in its UEC Valley loss. Also contributing for the Blackhawks were Aric Johnson (2 hits, RBI), Dustin Tomas (2 hits), Josh Adam (2 hits, RBI) and David Woods (2 hits, RBI).

Streamwood 9, Larkin 7: Jose Aguilar had 3 hits with a double and 4 RBI and Dominic Robles added 2 hits with a double and an RBI for Streamwood (14-13, 9-11) in this UEC River win. Jesse Rico added 2 hits with a double and 2 RBI for the Sabres. Andy Bonnot (2 hits), Cy Kerber (2 hits, RBI), Kobe Mounivong (2 hits, 2B, RBI) and David Bello (2 hits, 2B, RBI) led Larkin (11-15, 7-13).

Bartlett 13, East Aurora 2: Eric Johansen (2B, 2 RBI) and Joey Allen each had 3 hits to lead Bartlett to this UEC Valley win. David Jaske drove in 2 runs for the Hawks (16-12, 11-8) while Scott Ruedel had 2 doubles and an RBI, Jake Flint a double and 2 RBI and Martin Moreno a double. Nico Natali went 5 innings and allowed 4 hits with 4 strikeouts and 1 walk for the win.

Cary-Grove 8, Hampshire 1: Ryan Ignoffo (RBI) and Ben Levicki each had 2 hits and Tyler Pennington drove in 2 runs to lead Cary-Grove (22-7, 17-6) to a Fox Valley Conference win. Collin Walsh added a double and an RBI for the Trojans. Ignoffo picked up the win, allowing 4 hits with 8 strikeouts and 1 walk in 6 innings. Noah Schrader had 2 hits and an RBI for Hampshire (8-23-1, 3-18).

McHenry 6, Jacobs 3: Daniel Klein had 4 hits with an RBI and Mike Addante added 2 hits with a double and an RBI for Jacobs (16-16, 8-13) in its FVC loss.

Northridge Prep 10, St. Edward 9: St. Edward's season came to a close as Northridge Prep scored 3 runs in the bottom of the seventh inning in this Class 2A Winnebago regional opener. Daniel Falco (3 hits, 2 RBI), Matthew Schimbke (2B, 2 RBI), Nolan Theriault (2 hits, 2B, RBI), Jake Middleton (2 hits, 2 RBI) and Jack Olson (2B) led the offense for the Green Wave (4-23).

Burlington Central 12, Harvard 2: David Lauber threw a 5-inning no-hitter with 7 strikeouts and 5 walks as Burlington Central (23-9, 12-4) won in the Kishwaukee River. Zach Schutta (2 doubles, 3 RBI), Clay Milas (2 hits), Lauber (2B, 3 RBI), Josh Noeska (2B, RBI), Ryan Knowlton (2 RBI) and Caden Scott (2 RBI) led the offense for the Rockets.

Kaneland 3, Sandwich 2: Luke Calabrese had 2 hits with a double and an RBI to lead Kaneland (17-13) to a nonconference win. Brett Glennon was the winning pitcher in relief.

ACC 9, Glenbard South 6: Mac Doherty had 2 hits with a double and 4 RBI as Aurora Central (21-8-1) won in the Metro Suburban. Johnny Belskis added a double and an RBI for the Chargers while Kyle Czerak had 2 hits with a double. Thomas Canning was the winning pitcher in relief.

Harvest Christian sweeps: Harvest Christian ran away with a Northeastern Athletic Conference doubleheader against IMSA, winning 17-1 and 13-1. In Game 1, Jack Nohava (RBI), Dominik Olech (3 hits, 3 RBI) and Zach Pawelek (3 hits, 4 RBI) each had 2 doubles while Dylan Lockwood (RBI) and winning pitcher Joey Pepper (2 hits, 4 RBI) each added a double. In the second game, Brock Wilken had 2 hits with a triple and 3 RBI, Olech drove in 2 runs and Pawelek had 2 hits with a double and an RBI for the Lions (27-5, 16-2). Samuel Bonick was the winning pitcher.

Aurora Christian sweeps: Aurora Christian swept a NAC doubleheader from Westminster Christian, winning the 5-inning games 9-3 and 7-1. In the opener MJ Stavola had a triple and 2 RBI for the Eagles while Ethan Stoneberg added 2 hits and 2 RBI, Clark Turek had 2 hits and an RBI and Zach Zavasnik 2 hits and an RBI. Jake Kuntzendorf was the winning pitcher. In the nightcap, Robert Lewis had a double and 3 RBI for the Eagles (21-8, 9-3) while Sam Tickel added 2 hits and Eric Hernandez had a double. Turek was the winning pitcher.
