Softball: Grayslake Central earns a split

Grayslake Central, Prospect split: Elisa Koshy hit a grand slam and finished 2-for-3 with 5 RBI, as the visiting Rams salvaged a split of their nonconference doubleheader by beating the Knights 14-12.

Grayslake Central is now 22-8.

Nicole Buerger also homered for the Rams in the Game-2 win. Brooke Heraty and Morgan Smigielski (4 RBI) were both 2-for-4, and Grace Bradley went 2-for-5 with a double. Bradley also went the distance in the circle, allowing just 2 earned runs.

In Game 2, Bridget Marshall for 2-for-2, and Heraty was 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI.

Prairie Ridge sweeps Lake Zurich: The Wolves won 5-0 in the opening game of the nonconference doubleheader and 8-3 in Game 2.

Megan Croke, Sarah Schnecker and Abby Jokerst had Lake Zurich's only hits in Game 1.

In the second game, Jessica Puccinelli homered and drove in 2 runs for the Bears, who got doubles from Stephanie Keefe and Taylor Zelich.

Round Lake, Wheeling split: Brianna McGinley was 3-for-4, as the Panthers won 11-1 in the opening game of the nonconference doubleheader. Wheeling won Game 2 by the same score.

Besides McGinley, Round Lake's big hitters in Game 1 included winning pitcher Leighlanie Yazzi (2-for-2, RBI), Sam Nicoline (2-for-3, 2 RBI) and Charla Ryan (triple).

McGinley had the Panthers' only hit in the second game. Yazzi drove in Round Lake's lone run.
