Boys tennis: Hackman, Wauconda claim NLCC triumph

NLCC meet: Wauconda received first-place efforts from Brian Hackman at No. 1 singles and Andrew Lu/Connor Splingaire at No. 1 doubles to win the inaugural Northern Lake County Conference championship.

Wauconda finished with 41 points to edge runner-up Grayslake North by two points. Grayslake Central and Lakes tied for third with 32 points, and Antioch and Round Lake shared fifth with 20 points.

Hackman was a 6-0, 6-0 winner over Antioch's Kyle Boudreau in their title match. Grayslake North's Bryce Boyd captured No. 2 singles with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Lakes' Adam Hagman. At No. 3 singles, Round Lake's Danny Guzman won first place title by beating Wauconda's Chase Hayden 6-3, 6-0.

Lu/Splingaire rallied to beat Grayslake Central's Chase Starbird/Carson Cerquone 5-7, 6-2, 6-4 in the No. 1 doubles final. At No. 2 doubles, Grayslake Central's Chintu Chatterjee/Jacob Zboril won the title with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Ben Brannick/Josh Nguyen.

Grayslake Central's Jordan Ramsey/Kyle Judge won No. 3 doubles by besting Grayslake North's Jack Critzer/Joshu Moran 6-1, 4-6, 6-3. The No. 4 doubles title went to Grayslake North's Brian Szramek/Alexander Cisneroz, who were 6-2, 6-1 winners.

ESCC meet: Host Benet Academy won the East Suburban Catholic Conference tournament with 37 points, with St. Viator (26) second. Notre Dame (24) was third, edging Carmel and Nazareth (22 each, tie for fourth).

Carmel's best finish was provided by Nathan Schedler and Alex Colbert, who advanced to the No. 1 doubles final, where they lost to Benet's Danny McGuigan and Casey Schrader 6-1, 6-1.
