Baseball: Cox throws perfect game for St. Charles East

Jeremy Cox tossed a 5-inning perfect game Thursday as the St. Charles East baseball team defeated Elgin 22-0 in an Upstate Eight River game.

Cox struck out 6 in the win as the Saints moved to 20-6 overall and 16-3 in the UEC.

Charlie Charpentier (2 RBI) and Kyle Tiltges (2 hits, 2 RBI) each hit home runs for SCE while Steve Abruzzo, Zach Rupp (RBI), Thomas Adams (RBI) and Pat Gerkin (2 RBI) each had doubles. Jack Jordan added 2 hits and 2 RBI for the Saints.

Bartlett sweeps West Aurora: In a UEC Valley doubleheader, Bartlett hung on to win both games over West Aurora, 6-4 and 5-4. In Game 1, Andrew Fehr had 3 hits and an RBI for the Hawks while Scott Ruedel added 2 hits, Ben Fisher a double and an RBI and Alex Rodriguez a double and 2 RBI. Max Smithberg picked up the win with Joey Tomazin coming on for the save. Connor Palmby and David Woods had 2 hits each for West Aurora. In the nightcap, Rodriguez had 3 hits to lead Bartlett (14-11, 9-7). Tyler Yang earned the win and Ryan Sharko the save. Dustin Tomas (2B, RBI) and Josh Adam (2B, RBI) had 3 hits each for West Aurora (7-19, 6-12) while Cam Zimmerman and Palmby (RBI) added 2 hits each and Jacob Pavey had a double for the Blackhawks.

South Elgin 5, West Chicago 0: Dylan Wells went 5⅔ innings allowing just 5 hits with 9 strikeouts and no walks as South Elgin (15-4, 13-2) won this UEC Valley game. Adam Walker and Logan Romasanta (RBI) each had 2 hits for the Storm.

Geneva 8, Larkin 3: Jeremy Davis has 2 hits with an RBI while Jack Olson doubled with 2 RBI and Josh Rose drove in 2 runs to lead Geneva (17-9, 15-7) to this UEC River win. Noah Davison added a triple and an RBI for the Vikings. Sean Sinisko threw 5 innings, allowing 6 hits with 5 strikeouts and 1 walk to earn the win. Andy Bonnot (2 hits), Cy Kerber (2B, RBI) and Jeff Althamer (RBI) led Larkin (10-14, 7-12).

Batavia 3, Streamwood 1: Jake Robinson scattered 4 hits with 5 strikeouts and 2 walks as Batavia (7-13, 4-9) won in the UEC River. Tyler Munoz (2 RBI) and Glenn Albanese (RBI) each had doubles for the Bulldogs. A.J. Reyna had 2 hits with a double for Streamwood (11-13, 6-12). He was also the losing pitcher despite allowing just 1 earned run.

Cary-Grove 11, Hampshire 0: Mike Eleftheriou allowed 3 hits with 4 strikeouts and 1 walk as Cary-Grove (20-7, 14-6) won this Fox Valley Conference game. Tyler Pennington had 3 hits with a double, triple and 5 RBI to lead the Trojans' offense while Justin Trausch added 2 doubles and 2 RBI and Tommy Neilsen 2 hits and 2 RBI.

McHenry 12, Jacobs 8: Christian Scianna had 2 hits with a double and 2 RBI for Jacobs (14-13, 6-12) in its FVC loss. Also contributing for the Golden Eagles were Daniel Klein, Daniel Murray (2 RBI) and Liam Oreskovich (RBI), who each had doubles.

Burlington Central 15, Johnsburg 3: Zach Schutta had 4 hits with 2 doubles and 4 RBI to lead the Rockets (21-6, 11-3) to a Kishwaukee River win. Clay Milas (3 hits, 3 RBI), Brandon Van Buren (3 hits), Ryan Knowlton (2 hits, 2B, 3 RBI), Caden Scott (2B, RBI) and James Fay (3B, 3 RBI) also contributed for BC. Josh Noeska was the winning pitcher, allowing 3 hits with 4 strikeouts and 4 walks.

Yorkville 5, Kaneland 2: Luke Calabrese (RBI) and Jack Marshall each doubled for Kaneland (15-13, 7-7) in its Northern Illinois Big XII East loss.

Downers South 8, St. Charles North 7: Connor Bizik had 3 hits with an RBI but the North Stars (24-4) lost a nonconference game for the second time this week. Tyler Mettetal (2 hits), Sam Faith (2 hits, 2B, RBI) and Tommy Nelsen added 2 hits each for SCN.

Dundee-Crown 5, Marengo 2: Scott Wojcik had 2 doubles and an RBI to lead the Chargers (10-15) to a nonconference win. Conor Ryan added 2 hits and 2 RBI for D-C.

Aurora Christian 15, Hinckley-Big Rock 0: At the H-BR tournament, Clark Turek had 3 hits with a double and 2 RBI to lead the Eagles (17-8) to the win. MJ Stavola (2 hits, 2B, RBI), Ethan Stoneberg (2 hits, 2 RBI), Zach Zavasnik (2 hits, 3 RBI) and Tanner Dissell (2B, RBI) also contributed for AC. Jake Kuntzendorf allowed 1 hit with 6 strikeouts and no walks in 3 innings pitched to earn the win.

ACC 5, Indian Creek 4: Also at the Hinckley tournament, Austin Berens and Michael Bieterman (2 RBI) each hit home runs to help Aurora Central (19-7-1) to this win. Hunter Darnell added 2 hits for the Chargers. Chris Cartwright went 4 innings and allowed 3 hits with 4 strikeouts and 2 walks to earn the win.
