Girls soccer: Bartlett forges tie for UEC Valley crown
The Bartlett girls soccer team concluded Upstate Eight Valley league play Tuesday with a fireworks display that was welcomed in Lombard as well.
With a 2-1 win at West Aurora, Bartlett not only knocked the Blackhawks (16-3-2) out of first place, it gave a Hawks (10-7-4) a share of the division championship with Glenbard East (11-4-4), which edged South Elgin 3-1 simultaneously.
A feat that might've not seemed likely last week, Bartlett and East, who tied at 2 on April 6, finished with 3-0-2 records while West Aurora finished 3-1-1.
Bartlett's win was fueled by goals off the foot of Alyssa Modugno and Mikayla Brown, as Brown served up the game-winner off a Sarah Jurek assist in the second half. Keeper Teagan Noesen also made 9 saves.
Aurora Central 10, Catalyst Maria 0: In Class 1A Lisle regional action, the No. 2 Chargers (12-4-2) scored 7 goals in the first half to earn a regional final berth on Friday. Shannon Lopresti managed a hat trick while Anna Dudziak and Amy Flores each provided 2 goals. Gina Cortino, Cristina Morales and Mary Canning also provided goals while keeper Alex Montalbano's shutout consisted of just 1 save. ACC plays the winner of today's matchup between No. 3 Lisle vs. No. 6 Chicago Uno/Garcia.
