Baseball: Hampshire upsets Crystal Lake South

Matt Jachec was the man of the hour for the Hampshire baseball team Tuesday as the Whip-Purs pulled off the upset of the season in the Fox Valley Conference, beating league leader Crystal Lake South 8-4.

Jachec not only scattered 5 hits in 5 innings on the mound, striking out 9 and walking 3, he also had a double, home run and 4 RBI as Hampshire (8-19-1, 3-15) sent CL South (25-2, 16-2) into a 3-game series with Huntley later this week that will go a long way in deciding the FVC title. The Gators play Huntley Thursday, Saturday and next Monday and then end the FVC slate with 3 games against Cary-Grove (12-6 FVC). Huntley hosts McHenry Wednesday and finishes the FVC schedule with 3 games against Prairie Ridge.

In Tuesday's win, Hampshire also got 2 hits and an RBI each from Pawel Barnas and Logan Nespor while Matthew Wians doubled and drove in a run.

Nathan Peteck pitched the final 2 innings for the Whips, allowing 2 hits with 2 strikeouts and no walks.

Brian Fuentes had 2 hits with a double and an RBI for the Gators. Kory Olsen added 2 hits and an RBI and Nick Wolski had a double. Luke Dunham took the loss.

Jacobs-PR suspended: The game between Jacobs and Prairie Ridge was suspended in the 10th inning of a 6-6 tie.

Dundee-Crown 3, CL Central 1: Erik Hedmark scattered 6 hits while striking out 12 and walking 2 to lead D-C (10-14, 7-13) to this FVC win. Hedmark also had 2 hits with a double. Conor Ryan, Brett Buske and Ryan Denz drove in runs for the Chargers.

St. Charles East 6, Elgin 1: Niko Klebosits fired a 1-hitter with 12 strikeouts and no walks in his 5 innings of work as the Saints (19-6, 15-3) won this Upstate Eight River game. Pat Griffin had 3 hits with a double and 2 RBI, John Dellostritto had 2 hits with a double and Cole Conn added a double to lead the SCE offense. JC Fortmann had 2 hits for Elgin (4-20, 2-13).

ACC 8, Fenton 2: Kyle Czerak (RBI), Hunter Darnell (RBI), Patrick Flanagan (3 RBI), Garrett St. Clair and Jimmy Laurenti (2B) each had 2 hits to lead the Chargers (18-7-1, 7-2) to a Metro Suburban win. Winning pitcher Austin Berens (5 ⅓ IP, 6 H, 8 Ks, 2 BB) added a double and 2 RBI.

Yorkville 7, Kaneland 3: Luke Gomes had 2 hits with a double and Robbie Dudzinski drove in 2 runs for Kaneland (15-12, 7-6) in its Northern Illinois Big XII East loss.

Elgin Academy 14, Berian Baptist 6: In a nonconference game, Jordan Hare had 3 hits with 3 RBI while Kevin Kuykendall (4 RBI), Derek Warren (2 RBI) and Ethan Hill (RBI) each doubled for Elgin Academy (19-4). Hamza Aziz was the winning pitcher.
