Softball: Lyon, Libertyville slam Johnsburg

Lyndsey Lyon hit the Libertyville softball team's fifth grand slam of the season, as the Wildcats beat Johnsburg 11-1 in a nonconference game to reach 20 wins.

Hannah Heraty was 3-for-3 with a homer, double and 3 RBI for Libertyville (20-4). Winning pitcher Franny Quenan (3-0) allowed 1 hit over 3 innings, striking out four and not walking a batter. Lauren Heraty earned the save with 2 innings of 1-hit ball.

Maggie Evers also had a big day at the plate for the Wildcats, going 4-for-4 with a homer, double and 2 RBI. Lyon and Evers hit back-to-back homers. Lyon finished 2-for-4, and Quenan and Lauren Heraty were both 2-for-3.

Grayslake Central 6, Lakes 3: The Rams rallied for their 20th win after the Eagles scored 3 runs in the first inning of the Northern Lake County Conference game.

Grayslake Central (20-5, 8-1) took the lead for good with 4 runs in the fourth. Morgan Smigielski's 2-run double off Kayla Foote was the big blow. Reagen Radke added an RBI single in the inning.

Radke (14-3, 5-1) pitched a complete game for the win, striking out four and walking none.

Grayslake Central had 10 hits, including three by Lexi Waigand. Smigielski, Radke and Nicole Warren each collected a pair of hits.

Lakes was led offensively by Rachel Becker (2-for-4, 2 doubles) and Molly Dietz (2-for-2, double).

Lake Zurich 12, Zion-Benton 2: Sarah Schnecker homered and drove in 4 runs, as the Bears won in North Suburban action.

Jessica Puccinelli went 3-for-4 with a double for Lake Zurich (12-10, 7-3). Amanda Guercio (1-for-1), Elizabeth Chialdikas (1-for-2) and Julia Zaucha also doubled. Zaucha and Tara Wilkes were both 2-for-3. Winning pitcher Taylor Zelich (3-6) allowed 2 earned runs over 6 innings.

Warren 19, Lake Forest 4: Claire Swedberg was 4-for-4 with 2 doubles and 3 RBI, Erika Jimenez went 4-for-4 with a homer and 5 RBI, and the Blue Devils won the North Suburban game in five innings.

Warren also got a home run from Kelly Beck. Devon Plata finished 3-for-4 with a double and 3 RBI. Blue Devils with 2 hits were Beck (4 RBI), Lydia Gratz, Taylor McIntosh, winning pitcher Kinsey Jasnoch and Ashlyn Kitter.

Vernon Hills 9, Maine West 6: The Cougars prevailed in Central Suburban League action.
