Boys volleyball: Barrington clinches MSL West tie

Barrington's boys volleyball team topped visiting Palatine on Tuesday, improving to 8-0 in the Mid-Suburban West.

The Broncos' 25-13, 26-24 victory clinches at least a share of the league title and puts them in a commanding position to eventually represent the MSL West in the conference championship matchup.

Jacob Werner (7 kills), Josh Babicz (6) and Gabe Hartke (5) led the attack for the Broncos.

Stephen Wanca led Barrington in digs with 7. Hartke had 5 and Michael O'Toole 4.

Evan Carroll paced the Broncos with 21 assists, and Werner and Connor Shoults both served 2 aces.

Fremd d. Schaumburg: The visiting Vikings got 13 kills from Aaron Peterson in a 25-23, 25-21 decision in MSL West play.

Fremd (13-7, 7-1) is 1 game behind Barrington in the West standings. The Vikings host the Broncos at 6 p.m. Thurdsay.

Against the Saxons, other key contributors were Alex Wysocki (7 digs, 15-for-17 on serve receive), Martin Michalski (3 kills, 4 digs) and Jacob Peterson and Kaleb Scharman, each with 11 assists.

Elk Grove d. Prospect: The host Grens came out on top in MSL East play, winning 26-24, 25-22.

Top performers for Elk Grove included Kevin Braceros (24-for-28 hitting, 13 kills, 7 digs), Kevin Doyle (16-for-19 hitting, 10 kills) and Ed Gonzalez (9-for-11 serving, 2 aces, 2 blocks).

Braceros also went 10-for-10 serving with an ace, and Luke Augustaitis was 6-for-7 serving with an ace and also had 2 blocks.

Buffalo Grove d. Rolling Meadows: Danny Zickert had a team-best 6 kills and also led the team in assists with 11 as host Buffalo Grove defeated Rolling Meadows 25-16, 25-20 in MSL East play.

The Bison had great hitting balance, getting signficant contributions from Chris Tsourmas (5 kills) and Ian Van Wazer, Tyler Stejskal, Ryan Horvath and Brian Franz (4 kills apiece).

Stejskal finished 9-for-10 serving with 2 aces, and Van Wazer was 9-for-11 serving with 1 ace.

Greg Schneider paced Buffalo Grove with 12 digs.

Marist d. St. Viator: The visiting Lions came up short in East Suburban Catholic Conference play 25-19, 25-13.

Danny Morton led St. Viator (8-17, 2-2) with 8 kills and 2 blocks. Other key contributions came from Pat Doherty (3 kills) and Billy Mueller (5 digs).
