Baseball: Yates pitches Grayslake North to victory

Danny Yates pitched 6 innings of 1-hit ball, and Grayslake North's baseball team eked out a 2-1 win over visiting Wauconda in Northern Lake County Conference action Friday.

Yates struck out six and walked four. The only run he allowed was unearned.

Charlie Burr was 2-for-3 for Grayslake North, which had only 3 hits.

John Herbst was 2-for-2 with a walk for Wauconda.

Warren 5, Lake Forest 3: Lucas Schmitt went 3-for-3 and Cal Poremba was 2-for-3 with 2 RBI, as the Blue Devils won the North Suburban contest.

Jeff Stajduhar earned the win.

Caleb Durbin finished 2-for-3 for Lake Forest.

Vernon Hills 11, Maine East 1: In a continuation of Wednesday's game that was suspended due to darkness, the Cougars won in six innings to improve to 12-9-1 and 5-3 in the Central Suburban League.

Ryan Larsen earned the win, throwing 4 innings and allowing just 1 run and 3 hits, while striking out six. Kyle Fasbinder pitched the final two innings.

Matt Gramins (2-for-4, 1R, 3 RBI) and Sam Brandl (2-for-4, 2R, 2 RBI) had a pair of hits each for Vernon Hills. Nick Marras and Drew Winegardner both had doubles, while Brad Larsen touched base safely in all of his at-bats.
