Softball: Maine West climbs to 4-1 in CSL North Maine West climbs to 4-1 in CSL North

Maine West's softball team scored twice in the top of the first inning and never surrendered the lead in a 3-1 victory at Glenbrook North on Thursday.

The Warriors (9-9) improved to 4-1 in the Central Suburban North as freshman Jessica Steingard (5-6) threw a 3-hitter with 1 strikeout and no walks.

Gabrielle Demma singled in the first inning and came home when Megan Swanson reached on an error. Anne Lipinski singled home Swanson for the 2-0 cushion.

Maine West had 8 hits, including a 2-for-4 effort with a double from Amanda Byrne and 2-for-3 performance from Allison Pearson.

Byrne had the RBI that drove in the Warriors' third run in the top of fifth inning for a 3-0 lead.

Bridget Christiansen also had a hit for the Warriors.
