Girls soccer: Cary-Grove shuts out Jacobs

Izzy Robinson seemed to be in the right place at the right time all night long.

Robinson's 2 goals spearheaded Cary-Grove's 3-0 Fox Valley Conference girls soccer win over Jacobs Thursday night in Cary.

"We came out and attacked and put Jacobs on their heals," said Robinson. "We play so well together as a team and we do a good job of finding the open person. Our passing is getting better every game. This is a big win in the conference."

Robinson, off a perfect pass from Teagan Jones, put the Trojans on the scoreboard with a blast from 10 yards out with 21:23 left in the first half.

"It was good to get the first goal," said Cary-Grove coach Ray Krystal. "We had a good offensive attack and had some good scoring opportunities."

Jones emerged from a pile in front of the net and drove a shot past Jacobs goalie Emily Pasetes to give the Trojans (9-2, 4-1) a 2-0 advantage with 1:38 remaining in the first half.

Robinson scored an unassisted goal with 4.9 seconds left in the game to give the Trojans their third and final goal of the night.

Cary-Grove which outshot Jacobs 13-5 had other opportunities to score.

Kelly Stayart raced past the Golden Eagles' defense and had a breakaway shot but Pasetes made the save.

With 5:37 left in the first half Maddie Jannusch delivered a direct kick but Pasetes was able to push the ball over the net.

Pasetes collected 10 saves in the contest.

Jacobs' best chance to score came with 35:26 left in the game when Heather Hoffmann rifled a shot on goal from 15 yards out but Miranda Malone made the save.

Malone collected 5 saves in posting a shutout for the Trojans.

"Miranda has been outstanding for the last two years," said Krystal. "We totally trust her to get the job done. She is a very steady player."

Jacobs assistant coach Mike Hanley thought his team played much better in the second half,

"We weren't totally focused in the first half," said Hanley. "We let them attack and we gave them too many uncontested shots on goal. We made some adjustments at halftime. We played with much more heart in the second half. We did a much better job on defending them and creating scoring opportunities. You have to play well against a quality team like Cary-Grove for two halves."
