Baseball: Huntley sweeps Jacobs

Huntley scored 6 runs in the bottom of the seventh inning Friday to beat Jacobs 8-7 and sweep the Fox Valley Conference baseball series between the schools.

Grant Yakiminsky scored the game-winning run on an error.

Adam Smylie (3 hits), Matt Rodriguez (2 hits, 2 RBI), Brad Maurer (2 hits, 2B, 2 RBI) and Joe Boland (2 hits, RBI) led the offense for the Red Raiders (14-3, 8-1).

Ryan McGorrian had a home run and 3 RBI for Jacobs (12-5, 5-4) while Liam Oreskovich (2 hits, 2B), Adam Kale (4 hits, RBI), Ian Oreskovich (2 doubles, 3 RBI), Cory Dennison (2 doubles) and Jaco Sonnefeldt (2 hits) also contributed for the Golden Eagles.

Burlington Central 10, Marengo 0: David Lauber had 2 hits with a home run, double and 3 RBI to lead the Rockets (13-3, 5-0) to a Kishwaukee River win. Also swinging big bats for BC were Brandon Van Buren (2B, RBI), Ryan Knowlton (2 doubles, RBI) and Paddy McKermitt (2 hits, RBI). Josh Noeska picked up the win, going 5 innings and allowing 4 hits with 7 strikeouts and no walks.

Kaneland 4, Washington 1: Jack Marshall threw a 3-hitter with 6 strikeouts and 3 walks as Kaneland (9-7) won this nonconference game downstate. Luke Gomes had 2 RBI for the Knights.

Benet 13, Marmion 7: In nonconference action, Collin Gibson (2 RBI), Jack Molenhouse and Chase Stanke (2B, 2 RBI) each had 2 hits for Marmion (10-6). Nick Talarico added a double for the Cadets.

Larkin 12, Harvest Christian 10: Max Anderson (2B, 3 RBI) and Michael Rodriguez (2B, 3 RBI) had 3 hits each to lead Larkin (8-10) to this nonconference win. Jeff Althamar added 2 hits with a double and an RBI for the winners while Jackson Reuter also had a double. Cy Kerber was the winning pitcher. Joey Pepper (3 hits, 3B, 2 RBI), Dayne Frederick (2 hits, 2B, RBI), Drew Lewis (2 hits, RBI) and Dominik Olech (3B, RBI) led Harvest Christian (15-3).

Streamwood 13, St. Edward 0: In nonconference action, Adam Sojda (2B), Ryan Fitzgerald (2 RBI), Dominic Robles (3 RBI) and winning pitcher Colin Caminitti (2B, 3 RBI) each had 2 hits for Streamwood (7-7). St. Edward, which had just 2 hits, fell to 3-13.

Aurora Christian 21, Schaumburg Christian 0: Sam Tickel had 4 hits with a double and 3 RBI while Ethan Stoneberg added 3 hits with a double and 4 RBI as the Eagles (8-5, 6-1) rolled to a Northeastern Athletic Conference win. Also contributing for AC were Eric Hernandez (3 hits, RBI), Tanner Dissell (2 hits, 2B, 2 RBI), Evan Stoneberg (2 hits), Jacob Brothers (2B), Robert Lewis (2B, RBI) and Zach Zavasnik (2 hits, 3B, 3 RBI). MJ Stavola was the winning pitcher, allowing 1 hit with 10 strikeouts and 2 walks in 5 innings.

Elgin Academy 5, North Shore Country Day 1: Andrew Wilson had 2 hits and Jordan Hare added 2 hits with an RBI to lead the Hilltoppers to an Independent School League win. Ian Wilson and Ethan Plantz (2 RBI) each had doubles for Elgin Academy (10-2, 6-0). Jonathan Cruz earned the win, going 5 innings and allowing 4 hits with 9 strikeouts and 1 walk.
