Girls soccer: Johnson's late goal lifts Wauconda

Savannah Johnson tapped in a goal off an assist from Erica Miller with about nine minutes remaining, and Wauconda's girls soccer team remained undefeated by edging Lakes 1-0 in Northern Lake County Conference action Thursday.

Jillian Rejczyk made 5 saves in earning the shutout for the Bulldogs (9-0-1).

"This was a really good, tough match," Wauconda coach Beau Shogren said. "Lakes defended really well, and their goalkeeper made some incredible saves in the second half.

"I am proud of the fact that we were able to find the late winner," Shogren added. "It is important for us to know that we can score late when we need it, especially against a team that defends so well."

Antioch 2, Grant 0: Megan Helgesen and Rachel Moore (12th of the season) scored in the opening half for the Sequoits in the Northern Lake County match.

Ella Roberts and Morgan Keefer had assists, while Monica Wilhelm made 2 saves in notching her seventh shutout for Antioch (8-3-2, 1-1).

Grayslake Central 6, Round Lake 1: Madeline Mussay scored twice for the Rams in the Northern Lake County contest.

Joslynn Smith, Hannah Kolb, Stephany Madrid and Bri Storino also scored. Mussay, Maura Fitzgerald and Hannah Theer had assists.

Mundelein 1, Stevenson 0: The Mustangs prevailed in the North Suburban contest, scoring in the first half.

Stevenson fell to 1-4-1 and 0-2 in the NSC.

Lake Zurich 8, Zion-Benton 0: Rebecca Kubin scored 3 goals for the Bears in the North Suburban contest, and Kristin Brousseau and Erin Neeson each tallied a pair.

Morgan Long also scored for Lake Zurich (8-2, 2-0). Samantha Hartman and Kyra Ripoli each had 2 assists. Maddy Piggott and Brousseau had assists as well. Madison Hart and Claire Jones shared the shutout in goal.

Vernon Hills 6, Maine East 0: The Cougars got their fifth shutout of the year, improving to 5-2-2 and 2-0 in the Central Suburban League.

Abby Kempf had 2 goals and an assist to pace the offense. Lindsey Brettman, Katie Burrows, Becky Bahlmann and Rena Roos also scored. Burrows, Aleen Lim, Sammie Biede and Marley Reback had assists as well.

Cassie Pappano and Alex Napierkowski shared the shutout in goal.
